Kinetic Breeding Plans

Breeder Talk
  • We are still waiting for the Fanconi test results for TC but all the other health tests are in and I am getting quite excited about this special litter. This year we are planning a frozen semen litter from our 10 1/2 year old boy Nicky, DC Sherwood's In The Nick of Time SC, RN, LCM, JOR. The dam TC, FC Sunbird Sudnly Follow The Lady SC, will be coming to stay in California to whelp the litter when she comes in season.

For full details and pictures check out our litter's webpage. I have to update the page again today since TC's hip results just posted on OFA.

  • They will be lovely puppies.
Do let us know if it takes.

  • Congratulations, I'm sure you're really excited about this litter coming together.
And I'm happy that TC's health tests are turning out well (not that I expected anything less!)
I'm sure they will produce some amazing puppies.

  • Thanks, I am getting more excited each day.

  • I think I am almost as excited as Lisa about this litter. They should be awesome pups. :D

  • Oh so exciting…what beautifull dogs the sire and dam are.
Keep us updated...are you hoping for any specific colours other then the red or blacks....or will that be the most likley with this pair......I only ask because you are the master of inheritable genetics on this board. ;) with this litter, one thing seems certain...another great generation of lure coursers. :D

  • We believe that both of Nicky's parent were homozygous for Red, so he should be also. TC is heterozygous for black and we don't know if TC carries tri or not, though I don't think she does. Even if she did, since Nicky does not the only colors we can get are Reds and Black.

Two beautifull colours :) Good luck with the breeding…keep us updated.

  • TC's Fanconi test result is in and she is Probably Clear/Normal. Nicky is also Probably Clear/Normal. TC's owner has also given me a heads up that the girls may come into season early this year. She is hoping that they will hold off since she is planning to go to Nationals and them being in season early could complicate things.

So now I am getting really excited!

  • I also just realized how much work I still have to do to get ready for puppies. So I guess I am really getting excited and a little bit of that "how am I going to get everything done" feeling.

  • Ah the trials and tribulations of being a good breeder. Good luck with all the planning and the setup for this year…...it certainly takes a good amount of your time to bring the next generation into this world. I am getting excited too.....for the winter when you can tell us all about the cute little bundles of trouble. :D

  • Man Ivoss - I wish I was back home for this new litter. I so adore those little BW puppies.

  • TC is really looking pregnant now. She is due on October 31st. She is enjoying life in Southern California with my mom and her boys. She is fitting right in with my mom's all black and white household.:D

  • They are all so beautiful. My first show dog in 1978 was a black and white from a breeder in Los Gatos, CA. She was amazing.

  • Are you going to bring her to your house to whelp, or will she stay at your mom's?

  • We sent TC to my mom's house to whelp because it is much more relaxing for her to be in a house with two boys than in my house with 3 girls who definitely feel she is not pack. My mom is co-breeding the litter. I have already taken time off work so I can fly down and help with the whelping and have planned on several weekends down there including the holidays.

Sounds like a great plan :)

  • Yeah, TC is really enjoying it. Today was a chilly day in So Cal so my mom got out the jackets to make sure no one was cold on their walk. I think TC's jacket accentuates her belly.

  • What a great jacket… where did those jackets come from, I really like the style.. very simple.

  • She is lovely, hope all goes well and we have puppy pics soon.

@Kipawa: I think most people will agree that neutering a dog does not spoil their spirit or temperament. More often, spaying or neutering results in a more calm, balanced animal. I agree, but we have lots of people on the Forum from over the "pond" and they have most different ideas about spay/neuter, different culture, different ideas…. and that is their right.... sometimes we all will need to agree to disagree..

Seems like the DNA sample would be easier to get too. I guess the advantage of the sperm count is that you at least know if the sire is fertile or not. Good luck, can't wait to see pictures of the pups to be.

I had a Westie, that past over the rainbow bridge late March, that was allergic to storage mites. Storage mites are basically in anything stored on shelves in warehouses or stores for longer periods of time, like dry kibble, flour, grains and the like. So essentially he couldn't eat any dry nothing, so we went on raw and he did great. Of course he was also allergic to mold and flea saliva. Mold allergy and living in Houston, TX is a bad combo, it is everywhere, due to the humidity we have, and of course that also makes fleas very hardy. Bogus was on frontline and advantage together most of his life, that was the only way to keep fleas off of him and fur on him. He lived to be 13 years, which for me is way too young, but for a dog that has been on steroids and several meds throughout his life, realisticly it is not short. Either way, he clearly should not have been considered a breeding dog, even thought he was a beautiful example of what West Highland White Terriers should be like. My point, it depends on what type of allergies the dog has and the severity of them, in my ever so humble opinion..
