www.basenji.org and then go to breeder referrals for other breeders that would be in your area
WANTED: R/W Female Basenji puppy/adult.
-
I would also suggest you check to find out if there are any basenjis showing in your area.
Go to the dog show, look at the dogs, talk to folks and get to know the basenji people in your area. It can only work for your good.
If nothing else, they can help you get into lure coursing or rally for your basenji!
A tired basenji is a good b! -
EmC22, i wanted to send you a private messege (actually a warning about a backyard breeder in Florida) my mother has a rescue dog that came from this woman…she spent the first 8 months of her life in a kennel with no interaction. anyway could you either enable your private messeges
there are some really good breeders in georgia -
Sadly, folks have abused the private contacts of this forum, but if you ask admin, they might let you share.
Good luck. -
we managed good thing, sure enough that woman had a puppy. hard to imagine from a byb<sarcasm></sarcasm>

Well I found a male (wanted a female but thats ok). I found him through Mibre's Basenji & Stilwater Dogos aka Las Aguas Mansas http://members.tripod.com/~dogo2 which referred me to Ahmahr Nahr (www.ahmahrnahr.com)).
He is 5 months- He has microchip, all shots, dew claws done, dewormed, comes with a new crate totally out fitted and shipped. He has a vet certificate and guarantee with contract. His parents were extensively health tested, he is potty trained and leash broken. Including crate and shipping $1500- then good for a year as his shots are all done etc. He is a son of Jake the all time basenji BIS winner and Lady.
Let me know what everyone thinks. Thanks!

Honestly, that price is WAY out of line, period. Most responsible breeders at most have pups for sale for 1000.00 and that is on the West Coast were prices are higher for everything, including Vet Care. IMO, I would call this breeder a "pure for profit" breeder, period. And many responsible breeders now this person quite well… they also have sold Basenjis to known BYB/mini puppy mill breeders. If you go to my website and email me privately I will tell you about this breeder.
And Jake is NOT the all time winning BIS Basenji at least not in the US that would be Johnny who was shown by Erin Roberts.
Did you go to the OFA site (www.offa.org) and check out the health testing?
-
I personally would not want to get a dog from this breeder.
This breeder does have a reputation of selling dogs to anybody who show up with the money. I have seen her dogs ended up in many BYB or Puppy Miller's hands. I agree with Pat, $1500 is quite high and I am not sure what kind of health testing she has done on her dogs. All the "extras" this puppy came with is very basic stuff that any breeder would have done on their puppy by the time they are 5 months old. And like Pat said, Jake is NOT the all the winning BIS basenjis in US.From how I look at it, if I am selling each of my puppy for $1500+ to anybody everybody who show up with the money without doing intensive screening. I have seen her website advertising in many online puppy selling websites, selling them for as high as $3000 or more a puppy. If I am making a big profit from selling pups, I could afford to show my dogs in other countries and achieve the so called "International titles".
Just my personal opinion.

I'm with Steffie and Pat on this one - I have a puppy mill 2 hours from me with 2 of her animals at stud. I think the price is too high and his BIS is for CKC which I hope is the Canadian Kennel Club. Doesn't matter but facts should be inclusive of all the facts. Jake is a fanconi carrier according to the offa web site but it looks like Lady is clear which is a good and responsible thing to do.
unless shipping is more than $700 bucks - it's too high. Don't know what your plans are for showing or breeding but lots of good folks out there that will not charge you that much.
It's funny the puppy mill charges up to $1000 more than say, Sonbar basenjis who has had several quite big winners - and over 100 home bred CH.
-
I so hope this info is taken in by the buyer.
You all give such good advice.
Hopefully, it will be heard. -
He is the Male BIS for CKC, but Hooter (Schuamberg's Hoo Hoo) is the tops in Canada. Yes, he is out there but personally, he's not my style, and yes, I probably could get him for stud, but, he does nothing for me. This is, IMO, far too high a price even if he's BIS anywhere. Just because her price is high, and she includes goodies, doesn't mean scat. I have very good dogs that both have their CKC Championship and if I specialed them to death I could have a BIS too. You don't have to pay that much for good, HEALTHY, dogs.
-
$1500 is really steep. I think you will find that for a puppy most responsible breeders are between $800-$1000 depending on vet costs in the area and some of the young adults are available for less.
-
WOW all I can say is you all are right but I wanted to know what everyone had to say. I was saying the price was WAY to high but she seems to think other wise. I told her I'm not going to take him for various reasons. BUT thanks guys. For all of you, I'm just looking for a healthy basenji who I can give a loving home to be "owned" for his/her life =o)

And from a good breeder, who is not in it for the money.
Giving for profit breedes your hard earned money for ANY reason, even if it is to give a dog a good home, will only incourage them to keep breeding iresponsibly. The only way to truly slow/stop these types of breeders is to hit them where it hurts(their pocketbooks).

And close enough to you also…. it would be a good choice and then later if you wanted to add a 2nd, would be fairly easy...

The lady who wanted 1500 sent me pictures of the male, he is very cute but I told her I thought 1500 was way to pricey and I said good luck to finding him a home I guess I'll keep looking and all she said was Good luck in the last e-mail..

Good for you… She sold a pup around here and got... (everyone sitting down)... 3,000.00 as a potential show dog.. NOT, NOT even close... it is way to sad to see someone that paid that kind of money period....

There is a sucker born every minute…as someone said...
Some lazy folks who don't do their homework, think $$ shows quality.
We all know that is totally false in the dog world.
I only hope the dogs go into nice homes.
That is what I want for every b out there!
