  • I live right across the bridge from San Francisco, California, USA. I have a darling basenji girl named Victoria that Karen Jones of Basenjirescue.com rehomed to me. Karen went to great lengths to match me with a girl that is just perfect for me and my situation. I just spoke with her today, and she has 85 basenjis to re-home. She placed 34 last year. What a big job! I am in love with basenjis, and will make sure I always have one. I've had other basenjis in the past, but my darling Victoria is not an alpha dog, so she does not run me ragged on a daily basis. She has her tricks though, and has separation anxiety when I leave for an hour or 2. She's 1/4 African Stock, so is also a bit more skiddish than others. I hope to meet other people who have basenjis, and to also enjoy reading all the "basenji stories" as well as the myriad of health tips and tricks. Thank you. Leigh

Thank you. That would be lovely.

  • Welcome. I hope to see some pictures of your gorgeous girl if you happen to get a chance. :)

  • Thanks Daniel.
By the way, where did you get Zaire?
    Leigh

  • From a Breeder up in Seattle WA, (Taji Basenjis).

  • Welcome to the forum! Love to see pics of and hear stories about your girl!

  • Welcome to the forum! And ditto on the pictures (when you get a chance) - we are addicted to pictures :)

  • Welcome :) Can't wait to see pictures of your furbaby!

  • Welcome to the forums! I have a half Af girl, her dream job would probably be Walmart greeter, as she loves to meet and greet everyone. Hope to meet you at one of the upcoming BCONC events.

  • Welcome! This is a great place for sharing the basenji love, asking questions and getting feedback.

Good for you and for Victoria that you were able to find one another. Karen is an angel on earth, no doubt about it.

Yes she is! Does the "By the Bay" part of your name refer to San Francisco Bay? Is that where you live? I live right on the Bay. I would love to meet someone around here who owns a basenji.

  • Sorry, no, I'm in San Diego. But if you ever head South…:D

It looks like there's a pretty active club up in your neck of the woods. Maybe they have meetups you could join?

Not so much here, that I know of, though a lovely woman I met through Karen has 3 b's in a community near here. We have 2 basenji mixes in our neighborhood that we've discovered (your dog will find those for you if you take her to a dog park or a popular walking area).

Congrats again - can't remember if your post said this was your first B, but aren't they just amazing?

Admittedly Basenjis and sheep are a problem. Thank you for such friendly welcomes. I have had some Basenjis who I did eventually manage to 'train'!!? to be safe with sheep and could wander among them and occasionally help to herd, others (including my current pack are killers and can't be left to wander freely where the sheep are. We have a double gate system for visitors. There was a time when I could have taken them all out for walks together but now I take them 3 at a time and my whole day is taken up with exercising dogs. When I get the hang of my digital camera I'll post some piccies. Nomrdggs - I'm not sure I have kept my sanity!!!! Tanza - I have actually seen some of our original imports - and I have attempted to breed as close to the original type as I can. I bred my last litter 4 years ago.

@Scampy: Hello, everyone! I am so excited to have stumbled upon this forum! I belonged to Basenji Companions until last year, and I miss the community and advice. I have one basenji, a 10-year-old red & white male named Toby. I adopted him six years ago as a "golden opportunity" dog when his show/breeding days were over. He shares the house with three humans and a cat. (We may be inheriting another cat, but don't tell him…I'd sort of promised him a little sister.) Any other west Michigan folk out there? I was born in Kalamazoo! Welcome to the forum! Tabatha
