Ask the breeder how big the sire and dam are. That's a good idea. My first basenji, who was a champion, weighed nearly 26 pounds when she matured. My 2nd one would have been about that, but thanks to steroids, we did good to keep her at 30. My current rescue is a giant. We won't go there. I first dreamed of a SMALL dog, maybe 15 pounds tops after years of being a BIG DOG person (rottweilers and chows). I don't see that ever happening.
Kip meets the Gerbils

Kip looks appalled and concerned and wonders how you could let this rodent problem get so out of control! Jayden might sit there like Kip but Cory would have a tail sticking out of her mouth and an innocent look on her face that says: "I don't know what happened to the critter. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!"
A very funny and cute clip!

Yeah he doesn't look comfortable at all
(I was a bit concerned myself the first time I saw the clip - I don't think kippy_whip understands what might happen)
-
Your dog really like small animals; I would have never been able to get Medjai to not try to eat/play with one of those little guys.
Nice clip, funny expressions on his face.
-
Our dog would have bit it's head off and gobbled it down before you know what happened.
-
I'm amazed…they would be gone really fast in my house!

Hi,
We have a video help thread for anyone interested in posting videos on Basenji Forums.
Video Help: How to post a video -
I'm amazed as well. If it were my Ruby with the gerbil, you would have been watching the poor thing get killed on the video.
-
how BRAVE you are!! i could NEVER let a gerbil near my babies.. lol it would be GONE
-
Cool videos! I was biting my nails, though… I wasn't sure if Kip was going to "hunt" or just let it go... Whew!!! Pretty funny!!!
-
That poor gerbil would have been dead before it ever hit the bedspread.
Wow.

I'd still strongly STRONGLY encourage kippy_whip to be very watchful.
A few safe encounters may not mean a thing. Start getting too comfortable about it and then one day . . .

Gerbils are natures candy!

LOL, boyfriend said that after watching Blaze take down a full sized gopher, Kip must be a 'normal dog' in a Basenji's clothing LOL
I am impressed though, Blaze has been known to bend bars to get into critter cages -
we figure he's crossed with a scaredy cat or courage the cowardly dog
-
I love the music set to the video! How funny…you never know what they'll do! How cute!
-
well I've had Kip for around 6 months now and from day one he has been slowly introduced to them and it started just looking though the cage then i would hold them adn let him sniff but i would never leave them unsupervised…
Main point... please know I wouldn't do this if i hadn't been slowly introducing them

I would have say that is pretty amazing… and for me... should come with a warning... "Don't try this at home"...
Mine would have done in that critter in a flash... -

Ditto. Would have been about a 3 second video here.
