DC area mini-basenji meetup Sat. Mar 8, 2008

Basenji Meetups & Events
  • This is short notice, but a few of us have made plans to meet up at the "Little Rascal Doggie Day Care" tomorrow, Sat. March 8 from 10am-12pm. They have a 7000 sq ft indoor dog park (and it's supposed to be a rainy mess here tomorrow). I think we have 10-12 basenjis and a couple of b-mixes planned to attend at the moment with several others invited. I just decided it might be fun if there were other folks in the area that wanted to join us as well.

They do charge a $7 fee to use the dog park on weekends. And they require proof that your dog is up-to-date on some basic shots (see the website). For me this means I carry a copy of the 1-sheet health report from my vet when we go – no big deal.

So maybe we'll see you there.

  • How fun!!! :D Don't forget to take some pics & share with us PLEEEEAAASE :D

  • Oh, how fun! If I knew in advance I might have driven up for the day!

  • Oh no, I hope you decide to have another one of these. My little girl hasn't had her rabies shot yet. I live straight up 15 and go to Walter Reed a couple of times a year so I know where Georgia Ave is. Is this place inside the belt way?

  • It is inside the Beltway … at the intersection of Georgia and Missouri (a couple of blocks after Military Road becomes Missouri)

  • Yeh, if I had known, we might have made it!! Hope you do it again and post your pics from the meet up!!

When I took my last two Basenjis to the dog park they never played well or left me very far. I took them to a day care with out me and they played like craze. They don't haft to protect you when your not there

Hi Tasia. I see that it has been a couple of years since you posted but we are in the Lehigh Valley and have a Basenji mix who would love a play date. He is only 3 years old though, so you know.

I'm so sorry. I didn't realize you had responded. I thought I'd get an email. Zoey is definately NOT good off leash. It would be great to find a fenced area…I know there is a dog park (with a small dog area) near me, but I don't know how you feel about driving. (I've commuted for years, so I'm used to it). I could probably call Bear Mountian the park to see if they allow dogs. I'm working tomorrow, but I'll try to find out on Tuesday. Also, there is some sort of an event in Woodstock, NY (beautiful town), sponsored by the Rip Van Winkle Basenji Club. I am totally new to all of this stuff, so I'm not sure what goes on there, but here is a link....I thought you might be interested. If I'm not working I may go just to check it out. http://www.rvwbasenjiclub.org/June.24th.Match.html

There will be at least four basenjis at Ed Levin Park in Milpitas this Sunday from 11am. My husband and I have two, and a colleague of his has two as well. If any others would care to join us, it would be great to see you! (The park is 3100 Calaveras Rd Milpitas. There is an entrance fee for the park, but I think it's worth it, it's a really nice park, and the off leash dog enclosures are some of the nicest in the area. The dog park itself is a little tricky to find - ask at the booth, or email me if you'd like directions ) Pics to follow!
