    I just noticed two things today, so I felt I'd share and see how just plain weird Medjai is.

    When in bed, around night time, If I'm in bed sleeping and Medjai wants to curl up next to me, he scouts his spot, and instead of sitting down slowly like normal, he just about faints and falls.

    The other one, I just noticed. I rearranged my room and now his crate is close to my bed. Medjai likes to crawl under my bed, and just decided he wanted some toys from his crate, so while under my bed, Medjai tried to go through the bed skirt and through the crate to grab his toys. I just found it funny that he wouldn't stop trying until I told him no.

    My first female used to 'fall down' like that. It looked like she just picked up all her feet, and down she went, but very gracefully.

    Boys are noted for the "circle" 100 times and then they come crashing down and are asleep in a second… LOL... my only problem when OJ does this is the night he winds up wrapped in the entire blanket and the rest of us have none!

    lol rocky does the circling.. mia digs into whatever is where she wants to lay.. whether that be a blanket.. or your face… hahaha

    Jazzy usually just lies down, although will occasionally dig a bit. Keoki circles. In fact, over the months with his crate/sleep problems I learned that, once he started circling before laying down, I could safely leave the room and go to bed because that meant he was settled in. If he just lays right down, I know I'm in trouble and he'll leap up and start being naughty as soon as I walk out the door.

    But honestly, I think most, if not all, Basenji behavior is somewhat "random" LOL

    @Kananga: I know negative reinforcement is the wrong way to deal with Basenjis (or any dog for that matter), but even when I simply say "No!" in a firm tone, my B thinks it's all a game and turns extremely playful, usually doing his play bow and running around. I just think it's comical, and truthfully I think he knows that, and that's why he does it anyways. I'm trying to curb his jumping/nipping at times. Normally I ignore it (so he doesn't equate that with getting attention), but he nipped me when I wasn't watching so it caught me off-guard, instinctively thought to be firm with saying "No". I thought it was a strange response and wanted to know if this is a common response from Basenjis. Such clowns they can be sometimes. :rolleyes: Ok, I have stopped laughing now!!! Yes, be glad you have a clown! Sounds deft but, an unanimated Basenji is only a sad or sick Basenji! The rest of the replies I ditto! It is common from all the reading I have had and experienced with my first when he was younger (But a clown is so cute! as long as it is not aggressive in context-but reallly!!! too funny):eek:

    all 3 of our Basenjis do this funny sit. My theory is because Basenjis originated in countries where the ground is hot they have evolved to sit like this to protect their delicate rear ends :D . Now that they live in different climates i believe they do it to avoid, heat, cold, mud. I also think there is something in the fight/flight theory. Lisa your description of Xander made me laugh. Malaika hovers about an inch from the ground when doing her down stays in class, in cold weather she is allowed to do it on a rug, however she still likes to hover if we don't insist she goes down completely.

    hi and good luck on your baby!!, try some apple spray it does help and my boy was very, very, very alpha with me too! . i used the apple spray for 2-3 weeks and haven't had a problem with him till the kitten came in and no there is no problem at all! i took alpha role over again!,

    My hope is to live long enought to retire, then do rally with my 2 b's. It would be good for all of us.

    Sometimes picking them up in a "there is no other choice" manner is less coddling than stringing them along with treats. Don't get me wrong, you know I love to use treats for training. But sometimes when you spend a whole lot of time and effort trying to coax the dog to cooperate, they are getting some reward out of that. A lot more reward than they would get if you just picked them up, and made them cooperate….(kinda like toddlers!) But does sound like there might be more going on. I hope you find some answers. The reluctance to go out at 6 am (gads!) might get better as the weather warms up :)
