I'm not the only Basenji owner?

Glad I found this site! These are some crazy pooches aren't they? We live in suburban Detroit , Michigan ( no we don't fear for our lives every day) Royal Oak to be exact. The brother of a friend had this pup and didn't feel it was fair to leave it home alone all day while he worked, so he gave it to us. We were'nt looking for a dog at all because my wife and I could never agree on what size of a dog to get. I wanted medium to large and she wanted small.
Dingo is a great compromise because even though he is maybe in the small to medium size range his attitude more than makes up for it. We homeschool our children so he has constant constant companionship all day every day. One odd thing though. His ears don't stand up straight and he can work up a full blown bark if he wants to. We have no way of telling whether he is 100% Basenji or not, but all of the other characteristics are in full force. Of course a DNA test or something of that nature might tell us but for $300.00 bucks or whatever they cost we'll just keep on guessing! Maybe somebody out there in Basenji world could chime in and tell me if they've ever seen a full bred with floppy ears. I've never been known as a "dog person" per se, but then again I sometimes wonder if our Dingo is even a dog. I'm sure some of you feel the same way. Love to hear from somebody to maybe solve our Dingo mystery. Kirk.- -
Welcome and post a picture of Dingo for us…. unless in an injury, the ears are not floppy on a purebreed at least not that I have ever seen...

Thats a good question. My boyfriend met a brindle basenji named Oscar at the dog park with floppy ears. He asked the woman and she said he was an african, that he was pure just had floppy ears. From what my boyfriend said he sure looked like a basenji but the ears threw him off.
There is a picture of him in "wilysmom" member picture section, but its only a head shot. Anyway its nice to meet you and what a lucky pooch to have the family home everyday. -

Ditto, Pat. I was just thinking that I don't know of any Avongaras that both ears didn't come up.

If you are having problems because of resolution size, you can use a free photo uploading site and then link the photo from there.
I use www.dropshots.com and upload my pics full size to there, then the one that you can insert into the forum is resized to a perfect size

I am in the same boat, the only thing that isn't "basenji" on my chili dog is his ears dont stand, capable but mostly droop. Welcome and enjoy. -
