I just happened upon this forum and glad I did. We got our first Basenji 13 years ago because we wanted a "dog" and they looked cool on the dog show – and barkless? Cool! We had no interest in pedigree, we were just answering an ad in the classifieds. Little did we know what we started. Ironically it wasn't until the passing of our first that we would learn our second was actually closely related.

We now have 2 Basenji "pets", Select "Bonnie Bell" a 10 month old female (from Emerant's the Instigator and Select in my Pocket) and "Ramsey" Geheep's Klassic Jim a 11 year old male (Klassic Eye of the Tiger and Baruh's Jessica Hahnd). Sadly we had to let our 14 year old Brie go this year. She was an awesome little girl. Her parents were Falisha's Night Odyssey "Odie" and Hacker's "Yoda" of Baruh. For a short time before Brie's passing we had talked about a simpler life after dogs. Now we know we'll always have Basenji's in our life. We currently are talking about adding another for Bonnie -- maybe we're crazy!

Hi, welcome to the board. It is great to be able to swap stories with vetern Basenji people, I am new at this and I love to read the stories and learn that I am not crazy!

I am sorry that Brie recently passed but it is good to know that you now have another pup. I bet you have lots of great stories about Brie.

After 13 years I have a ton of stories. We went camping, to the beach, even ate in a restaurant once with her! She was an awesome dog and was very very loyal. Once we were approached by a relative's 150lb English Mastiff and little Brie sprung across the room (literally jumped about 10'!) to protect us. The Mastiff leaped straight up on to a chair and ran out of the room! How funny. Yeah, she was fun and we miss her. But nothing like a clumsy Basenji puppy to cheer you up!

Hi cmd - My name is Jill and I am the recipient of a rescued male puppy, Duke, who I have since learned (after 4 months) is a Basenji, now 8 mos. old. I love this forum, because I have learned alot about this breed. I now realize that Basenjis are a challenge, but I believe the more I know, the easier he will be for me and my family. There is no turning back now because we are in love with Duke .

I am glad you're a veteran as are many forum friends here. I love the stories about the Basenji's extraordinary body of energy and their purposes. Can you guess why my handle is Crazy Duke? I can tell you about some unbelievable stories about Duke since bringing him home already. (That's why I'm glad to find this forum - Duke's not crazy, he's a Basenji.)

She was an awesome dog and was very very loyal.

I am so sorry for your loss. But the only comfort we have is knowing she had a great life being in your life. I've lost many doggies over the rainbow to squirrel heaven.
