We're active in B-rescue and enjoy sharing stories about our collective adventures with these amazing critters. Thanks for the suggestion, Patty M.

Hello from Holland!

Hello everybody,
I'm Janneke and I'm not only new on this forum, but everything about the basenji is a bit new for me. Today my boyfriend and I went to a breeder and bought our first basenji puppy! It's a brindle and white male, born on 11 January 2008. His name is: Two of a Kind's Lutalo = Talo
Of course we read all about the basenji before we decided to take one into our home. We allready have a sheltie-mix, so we hope they will become best friends!
I hope you can all help me when I have some typical 'basenji-(puppy)-problems'!
Greetz,
Janneke
Ps. I believe I added a photo of the puppy…..

Well.. a lot has changed since yesterday..
We decided not to take this puppy. We didn't have the right feeling and called another breeder in the Netherlands. She confirmed our feeling..
In Holland it is not obliged to test the basenji. The parents of these pups weren't tested at all. Not for eyes/hips, neither for Fanconi. We have now contacted two breeders from the Czech Republik: Asthenia and Salasirian. They both have a red and white male available for us.
So.. now we have to choose! -
Oh boy! Well, it is good to go with your instincts (and the advice of the great people on this forum ). Good luck with choosing…keep us updated on what you decide!

So.. now we have to choose!I looked both them up, the Asthenia basenjis, the litter is sired by a wonderful dog Gooses Burnt Ember, his owner is a member of this forum also. This litter also has a wonderful pedigree.
Salasirian Basenji's has very nice looking dogs, and this litter has a good looking pedigree. What's the Fanconi results to this litter?
Do you have pics of what pups you have to choose from?
It must be a very hard choice, but if it was just me, I'd go with the pup from Asthenia, I like the look of them better and I like the look of the parents also. Good to go with your instincts to it makes me very happy also to see people doing their research, with any breed, but especially with basenjis

Jenson is probably carrier and Fedora is probably clear.
I love the look of Kwame! But Jenson is a very nice dog as well.. he is from a Dutch breeder, the one who told me to go 'beyond borders..'These are the pups:
1: Asthenia

2: Salasirian

I really like the liner and colour so far.
-
At Salasirian I can choose from two pups, but I only like the look of Awangu..

Oh my that us a tough choice….they are both absolutely ADORABLE!!!!
I agree that both are wonderful looking dogs, as well as both mothers, I think what draws me to Abanda & Kwame's pup is the lack of white on the head, I really like that in reds, makes them a little different than the rest
This guy from Jetson and Fedora(?hope I guessed name right?) is way cute to, I love how his little blaze looks like an arrow head
-
Maybe I have to take them both
I love the two front legs of the first pup and the fact that there is no white on the head. I don't like it when there is too much white.
The second pup.. well.. he's just selling himself on this picture.. -
Ok.. we decided to go for Buburu from Asthenia!
I was wrong about the fanconi test results: Fedora and Jenson are both probably carrier.
But we actually already decided on the looks..
I believe that those who just gave a reaction.. were more charmed by him as well. Now we have to wait untill April…. The pup can leave his mom at the end of February, but we are moving to a new home around that time..
-
I'm really chuffed you have gone with Buburu, I have told his dad!!:D
-
That's great! how did he react? :p
-
Welcome to the forum & keep the pictures of the little one coming!

How exciting!!! Now the long wait, oh that must be torture. Thats to bad that Jenson and Fedora are both carriers. I wonder why they did the breeding then? They should have had plenty of time for the tests before the breeding
