~ Riding out the Chaos on the Sofa ~

We were re-arranging our living room a couple of years ago and Dan decided to ride out the chaos on the sofa. I've captured the 'moment' in a painting of him. I just finished it yesterday. Have a look here.

Beautiful paintings…and I'm not just saying that because you have one that is called "Ruby in the Sun" (my b is named Ruby :D)!

I really like your art work (it must be nice to be so talented!!!) and I like your website in general…..especially the section about your "assistants" - They are too cute. We also had a dog (a basset hound) who had to have an eye removed due to glaucoma and we also elected to have her eye sewn shut rather than having an implant put in. Little children were fascinated by the dog and it got her a lot of extra attention and hugs from little fans. Just a couple of years after the dog lost her eye, our teenaged son also had to have an eye removed due to an injury. He was so groggy and out of it from pain medication and we had a difficult time convincing him that he would get an artificial eye and wouldn't have his eye sewn shut like the dog.

I just wanted to say thank you for the nice comments on this latest painting. It is the first time I've worked in this medium (gouache) and there is a learning curve ahead :) Dan and Jack (the studio assistants) are favorite subjects of mine. Ruby bosses around Chey Miller in upper state New York. She enjoys her sunbaths.

DebI'd love to hear what it was like to do the paintings that you did on Yupo :D and also why you picked it for your paper…I'm just curious :D . I'm a graphic designer, so I know Yupo well, however have never had a reason to use it myself.

I painted on Yupo during a 'phase' when everyone was doing it. :) It was a total trip – like painting on a sheet of plastic. However, it made for some very unique and interesting hard edges. Lots of people painted with watercolors but I thought that was risky considering they would wash right off if they got wet. I did my work with fluid acrylics which stays put when dried. You bringing this up makes me think that I just may try a Basenji on Yupo one of these days. :)
