Doggie clothes…

  • We found some good down coats at old navy. The detachable hood lasted about 30 seconds, but they don't mind the coats at all.

  • I usually have pretty good luck with the dog clothes sold at Target… especially the knit sweaters. they seem to fit my b's well.... I have also made them some clothes in the past... out of fleece... they're not pretty, but they keep them warm!

  • @youngandtired:

I have some websites for you that sell Coats, and sweaters, the websites are:

    Ruffware K-9 Overcoat: www.amazon.com/Ruffwear-Overcoat-Abrasion-Resistant-Insulated-Jacket/dp/B00LHWLUSG/r,

www.thecompanyofdogs.com, www.sitstay.com I love the K-9 overcoat and will be ordering one myself for my B, Sahara. I got her some jackets and sweaters from Old Navy also, alot cheaper than the websites, for everyday wear. If I were you I would get the K-9 coat b/c it snows so much where you live, and the fact that you measure your dog from neck to base of tail for a nice fit. Good Luck, Gotta keep our furbabies warm. haha!!!!! For you check out the website www.Amazon.com for Basenji clothes for you. They are so cute!!!!!! I plan on ordering some for myself and hubby!!!!

I'm with I love the ruffwear jackets. They are great!!

  • Thanks everyone! I like the ruffwear coat and think it is an essential. I can take the one's I bought at PetFart back which makes me happy happy happy! I hate that place…

  • I think that basenjis would wear an extra small (ruffwear), my boxer wears a medium (the chest piece doesn't meet the sides all the way about on inch on each side, but the large was way to big for him in length and adjusting the sides it didn't fit snug). I am about to order Tiggy a ruff wear coat and a fido fleece, all from sitstay, they are cheaper for the ruffwear coats. They are a little more expensive for the fido fleece but their shipping is cheaper than the fido fleece web site (and I can get both from one place.

The fido fleece, I'm going with a 14 for Tiggy right now, I'm pretty sure it'll start a little big, but he'll grow into.

I also really like ruffwears cloud chaser jacket but they are way to expensive right now for me. I'd rather pay about 70 for two coats than just one :)

  • I was going to ask the sizing question next… Those who actually HAVE a coat, what size did you get? I measured Tucker this morning and his girth is 24" and from neck to tail is 14". This means he's in the XS range on the site but I fear that since that is the uppermost limit of the XS range, that it might be snug. The next size is S, which is for 23"-30" girth and 18" long. Anyone know the size of thw one they have and what size their dog is? I was planning on getthing both the Overcoat and the Cloud Chaser and one wants these to fit when one is spending this much. :)

  • I am positive the XS will fit just fun, as an added bonus the straps that have the buckles are adjustable and elastic (sp?).

If you want you can go to http://www.ruffwear.com/store_finder;jsessionid=0a0002491f43071cdd6deea54adc867cf6fe7be50a23.e3eTaxmKbNaNe34Pa38Ta38Pch10 and see if there is a store near you and try on the jackets. I have noticed they are more exspeinsive in the store, me, I'm bad and will go somewhere to try it on and then buy it online :o

And like I mentioned before about my boxer, I had bought the large for him and it was WAY to big and his girth is 33" (right above the edge of measurment for a meduim) and it fits him like he was wearing a dress. Even though the length difference between the meduim and large is only 2 inches the jacket actually fit our neighbors Great Dane and still had adjustment room. So I gave them the large and went and got Reggie a medium.

  • I'm an idiot. I found a store that allegedly carries then that is MAYBE 2 miles from my house in Alexandria. Duh! :D

  • LOL, it's okay I meant to mention it in an earlier post but forgot. I just ordered one for Tiggy last night. Check to see if there are any other stores also, sometimes they might not have it in stock, or they might not carry the jackets, or better yet call first.

  • I'm back to NOT being an idiot. None of the stores near me carry them in the XS. So I ordered them anyway. I'll just send them back if they don't work for me. Got both the Cloud Chaser and the Overcoat II. Tuck is going to be STYLIN! (in 5-7 business days)…

  • You get them from Ruff Wear direct or sitstay? Just curious, I know sitstay as a pretty decent return policy (I've had to return something before)

  • I got them from SitStay. They were about $10 cheaper.

  • :D I'll let you know how mine fits Tiggy if you let me know how yours fits Tucker, especially the Cloud Chaser since I'm putting off buying that.

You said he's 14 inches long? how tall is he?

Tiggy is 14 inches from base of neck to tail, and 14 inches from toes to shoulder, and his girth is 18 inches (at the best I could from many measurements, he was very wiggly for that part)

  • Check out this site

My 2 b's love these sweaters…they are easy to clean and put on.
She also send the $$ you mail to her to rescue.

  • I think it just depends on the manufacturer of the clothes. We have found that Cammie is 16 inches long and a girth of 19-20. We tend to buy her a Large. The mediums seem to be to tight when trying to get her legs in.

  • Take a look at these beauties …

Not very cheap :( but WOW !!!:)

  • I'm making custom fit basenji fleece sweaters if you're interested. You can pick the fleece you want, and then send me a list of measurements & I will fit the fleece not just for A basenji, but for YOUR basenji. And I will keep the pattern so if you ever need another one, or if your b gains or loses weight, its easy for me to make another one for you. E-mail me at carriesquires@gmail.com if you're interested.

Yikes about Bitty! Interesting that it happens more with age – I feel like I only started noticing them last year. It's all part of her dermal profile. She had really crusty ear rims when she first came to us, and I don't know why... I actually thought that's just how her ears were, like dry skin. After a while, I found that I could gently flake away that crusty stuff, revealing perfectly clean and furry ear tips underneath the scabby layer. Later she got a scrape on one ear and that left some scarring which has remained quite dark and dirty-looking, though I do wash her ears out with Nolvasan Otic. Maybe I need to look at other cleaners. She does also have a larger marble-sized cyst on her back which the vet has examined before, but that seems unrelated to the blackheads and whiteheads. As long as her lumps don't get any bigger or become painful, I leave them be. She eats a very healthy diet of grain-free kibble and raw. Her coat is super soft, which is why it's all the more noticeable when I find those bumps. Bowpi is embarrassed that I've publicized her imperfections for the whole forum to see. ;)

I'm so sorry to hear about your old girl. There are a couple of things that have worked for me and my senior B. Supplements and/or foods with antioxidants can help (SAMe is good), as can play time, exercise and activities that provide mental stimulation and keep her active and engaged. I have also found that it helps to stick to a routine and keep things out of the path they follow. (My old boy follows the same paths, and if I leave shoes or anything in the way, he'll stumble over them.) And DAP helps some dogs– calms them down and stops the pacing. Also, restlessness and wandering can be a sign of pain-- sometimes caused by arthritis, where it hurts or is uncomfortable to lie down so the dog keeps moving. Pancreatitis is very painful. My dog has had it twice, and both times he wouldn't eat or drink and couldn't keep food down. Does your girl have chronic pancreatitis? Maybe she has a tummy ache or would benefit from a different diet? One last thought, which probably doesn't apply in your case, but sometimes wandering, disorientation and getting stuck in corners can be the aftereffects of a seizure or mild stroke, which otherwise would have gone unnoticed. How are your dog's kidney and liver values? Good luck to you! I hope your old girl feels better soon!

Any product made for babies will work on your B's. Aloe gel is fine if they do get pinked up out there. We keep an aloe plant growing in our yard (of course that's probably not possible in Canada) and break a shoot off, slice it, and put the aloe directly on us when we get it. So far though, even at the Florida beaches, our girls have not shown any sign of sunburn. (Fingers crossed)

That's awesome…I'm glad the pupper is okay. I have to renew my Pet First Aid Certification. It only lasts a couple years...and then you have to retake the class. I guess that's something I'm going to have to look around Denver-area for.
