Dd's hot night

Off Topic
  • So, my 20 yr old dd is a senior at university about 5 hrs away. She's studying Administration of Justice; wants to "get the bad guys". She was recently hired by the campus police force and as part of her training has to be tazed and pepper sprayed. She'd been tazed before, because she was a sheriff's cadet from age 16 - 19, so that is not a concern.
She was REALLY afraid of being pepper sprayed.

Well, she got it tonight. It's been about 3 hours, and I just talked to her. She is still in extreme pain, poor kid. :(
She turned her head when they sprayed her, and the stuff got all over not just her face, but her neck and chest as well. She sent me a photo and it looks just awful.

She is the only girl on the squad of 8, and was determined to make a good showing tonight. That worked – she was told she took it better than the guys -- including one ex-marine, LOL.

I feel so bad; I want to be there with her but I suppose that's part of being a grown-up; Mommy can't always save the day! Her boyfriend is taking good care of her though.

On a cuter note, she was laughing because they got the roster w/the names and emails of the squad members.
The guys all have emails like: TomB@aol.com, Shark1@comcast.com, etc. And then there's dd's email:
grandpas_tweety@whatever.com LOL Now, doesn't that just strike fear in the hearts of all the bad guys?

  • Wowsers! I'm impressed at how tough your daughter is! I can't even cut an onion!!!

  • WOW great job. Women can be tougher than those "tough guys" when we choose to be. We're not stupid it's best to save our strength for the hard times. Now being a mom, I guess that never gets easier! Hang in there it sounds like she's following her dreams. You gave her that ability so it seems as though you may not be able to be there in person but you ARE there for her…she called you!!!! Great job to mom too!!!

  • Yikes! Congrats to her for being tough enough, though :) A very brave and admirable career…I hope she reaches her goals :)

  • I know that at the local police academy, they're required to get pepper sprayed. If she's still burning, have her soak a towel in whole milk(not skim) and wipe herself down in the shower with it. Saline solution, the kind used for contact lenses, also works.

  • Yes, they also have to at police academy here. She's hoping…hoping...that having it done now, she will not have to later. I doubt it, but you never know.

She tried the milk thing and said it really didn't work. Some info we got suggested canola oil {absorbed the pepper} followed by a wipe down w/alcohol. She didn't want to try that. Spent the night w/bags of frozen potatoes and veggies on her neck and chest, LOL.

She was doing okay today; her biggest problem was that her eyes are still irritated and she forgets and rubs them, which is uncomfortable.

Also, based on her performance last night, she was asked today to consider taking special training in female defense training and to begin to work w/a female sgt. on doing work w/that on campus - demonstrations and training.

    Pretty cool.......:)

If you met her, you'd never know she had it in her. She's 5'7", maybe 130 if that {and very pretty, of course;) }; You'd think she's all about hair, make up, and shoes. She's living proof that girly-girls can kick butt! :D
She's gonna surprise a few bad guys in her career, I'm sure! LOL

@Basenjimamma: …Oh, I want one of those generators too..they are just so darn expensive..We need them down here too, if we have a storm, our neighborhood of 25 or so homes are one of the last on the list to get our power back..it sucks.. We do have a generator that is large enough to either run the fridge and a few lamps, OR our waterpump..so you have to pick your battles when the electricity goes.. Yeah, see my problem is I want the whole house automatically on when the power goes out - gone are the days when I find it an adventure! As it is, I've compromised and were only doing the first floor (including all kitchen, laundry, office, bedrooms, bath, basement - furnace, well/water) and the only thing on the 2nd floor will be the bathroom. During the ice storm last winter we lost power for 4 days. During the ice storm of 98 (?) we lost power for 17days - CNN was filming right in front of our house.

We were in Ohio when I wrote it. Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, but Congress apparently forgot to vote on the resolution. It was finally rectified on August 7, 1953, which technically makes Ohio the 47th state. However, it is counted as the 17th because it wasn't Ohioans who created the problem. Who says our Federal government isn't efficient? Zanesville, OH is the location of the Y Bridge, which starts and ends on the same side of the river. But that's where we were. The wolverine is the official state animal and nickname of the state. Fur trappers from Canada brought pelts across the state and folks further south assumed (there's that word again) the pelts were trapped in Michigan. The Detroit Red Wings assembled the Russian Five, who propelled the Hockey team to the Stanley Cup in 1997. Within a few days of the win, one of the team members was permanently benched in an auto accident, but the remaining four were instrumental in the 1998 and 2002 Stanley Cup wins for the Red Wings. We will be in Grand Rapids, MI tomorrow morning. Ms. Basenjimamma: The temperature here right now is 51F. :)

@Maya: If you're living in Holland, you need a Friesian!!! :D I have the most wonderful friesian, her temperment is amazing. She's not even 3 yet but she is just so sweet and gentle!! But, do keep us updated. I've had horses since i was 3 and they are a huge part of my life. I couldnt be without them even though im not as involved in the horse world as i once was!! P.S. I have some photos from a show over here in the UK with shires in their traditional plaits and tack if anyone is interested in seeing them. Its just amazing!! Yes!! I love to see the pictures!!! I like the Friesian horses but it's not a breed wich can used for lots of things, they are to special i think :D I like the Friesian for shows and as a barouche horse (is it a good word?) I once ride a Friesian and it's different with riding a normal or western horse. They make larger steps and it's very comfortable riding! A friend of us breeds the Friesian :D @moetmum: That sounds exciting, hope it all goes to plan. Our neighbouring farmer used to breed shire horses, they don't breed now but still have loads of horses. They go to loads of shows, they were sponsored by a local brewery. The horses are fascinated by the basenjis, and always want to come and have a look! the b's aren't keen when they snort at them though. I have never heard of a horse milking farm before!! Wow!!! If it was a little bit near Holland, I really would come over to met you and take a look at the shires next door :D:D We're don't going to live in Holland :D In Germany they have also some very nice breeds Hannoveraan, holsteiner (i don't know the english names…0
