Where does your B sleep?

Basenji Talk
  • Myran sleeps under my duvet with his head on my tummy and little sister Efia 10 weeks sleeps in her crate by my bed. When she´s totally housebroken she´ll be welcomed to join us;)

  • Goober sleeps by my feet. I don't know how he stands the smell. It also gets annoying when my wife and the other dogs pile on the bed and the restless leg syndrome is acting up.

  • My girls has always been able to sleep with me since I got her. She has 2 dog beds in the bedroom and there is also a couch in there as well. Sometimes she start out on the couch or one of the dog beds but almost always ends up in the bed under the covers by morning. Sometimes at bed time she is a bit frisky even with an evening walk, I will give her a chewy treat which she will work on until she get tired and goes to bed. Now she is 11 yrs, there are not too many times she isn't ready for bed when I am these days, but she will look for something to get into when she isn't ready for bed if I don't give her something to get her busy.

  • All three pups sleep in bed with us. We bought two double beds and stuck them togeather so we could all fit. It's still crowded.

My next dog IS going to sleep in a crate!

A campsite would be good for them to roam around. When we take on vacation, I also make sure to visit any local pet cafe so they could eat food we usually don't cook.

Having your Basenjis get used to crates by riding does help…in the long run.. the start besides things like feeding them in the crate... to associate the crate with fun times.... and when you are at an event... the crate becomes as safe haven... and a place to crash... at our lure trial in March... Kobey was there.. I always have crates in my van... and with so much activity going on... Kobey was very happy to be in the crate and taking a nap....

@Lenora: He sounds pretty typical basenji to me Cheryl. They want to be where you, and make themselves completely comfortable on you. Abbey used to be a terrible mouther when she was little (she's 3 now) and I taught her No Bite. Kiss. When she'd start to mouth at my hand or whatever, I'd say No Bite, Kiss, and she would give me a little lick instead. I too use the No Bite, Kisses and he is getting there. If he gets too rough, I just pull away and ignore him, it doesn't take long before he will reach over and give a gentle kiss. I am having so much fun with him. He is the most loving dog I have ever owned and we are learning lots from each other. Yesterday he "saved" me from the UPS truck! He saw it pull up outside on the curb and he set off with a series of barks that hit a pitch that hurt! Of course once he saw the man get out, he was all wiggles and wanting to play with him. :)
