    Hi All,

    I'm in Hawaii right now. I went into a pet store and there sat a 15 week old red and white boy. I asked about his background and they said that he just came in from Australia a couple of days ago. He is in great shape, had a great personality, great color neat little double curl tail, and even had his dew claws removed. They said that he comes with UKC paperwork and the paperwork to switch from UKC to AKC. I guess what I'm trying to get to here is - Are there puppy mills in Australia? I didn't ask for his name or anything…. Just curious as to whether other coutries have some of the same problems that we do....

    I am sure there are (puppy sellers in Australia)… would love to know the breeding to ask the breeders that I know in Australia about him..... While many say they do not have the problems we have... we all really know that is not true. Especially in Europe where spay/neuter is not the normal.... but the exception.....

    Not sure what switching from UKC would have to do with AKC.. but dogs that come from other countries with a "real" kennel club registery can be re-registered with AKC

    And while I believe that Aussie Basenjis do have dew claws removed, many countries in Europe can't remove them….....

    One thing that amazed me was his great condition - he didn't look like your standard pet store basenji. He also looked like he had been groomed - nails and all recently. They said that he arrived two days ago.

    Oh and also, within a minute of talking to the little guy, my husband and I got two yodels out of him!! The pet store people kind of freaked when they heard it.

    Who am I with two B-mixes - but after reading and learning everything about Basenji's on this forum and on-line . . . Get your next Basenji from a reputable breeder. You're on vacation in Hawaii?? Enjoy yourselves! omg - everything's not about the B's - right??? No offense - just have a good time - "don't worry - be happy", "hang ten" and have a Mai Tai…:)

You are right. Most of what I do as a "moderator" is banning people who create profiles for commercial websites to improve their Google rank. I feel like if I kick them off right away, they won't bother us with inappropriate posts. I have banned over 2,000 profiles (so far), looks like I have 3 or 4 more to tend to today.

    @tanza I'm definitely attending the next show as a recon trip. Not sure how the work here but if they're similarly easy to enter as the ones in the US, I do want to show Roux! LOL that's a hilarious saying; I absolutely appreciate a smart lady over cluelessness haha :face_with_tongue:

    @zande - So true Zande, the test is 65.00 and considering the heartbreak and cost of caring for a Fanconi Basenji (try shoving down 20+ pills a day) it is something that anyone breeding, even Back Yard Breeders or Puppymills should always do... Also if someone happens to get a puppy or is unsure about the breeder they did get a Basenji puppy from, spend the 65.00 and have the DNA Fanconi test done... again it is a cheek swab that you order from OFA.org

    @lindenbaum I've long forgotten about this thread. If I am remembering correctly, I left it up so that people could read the flags that it may be a puppy mill and be able to make their own decision regarding that. I am deliberately wording that as "... may be... " because I do not have any personal interaction with "HH" and therefore cannot speak to it. (please note that I removed your "HH available breeds" list, no offense)

    I also noticed the same birthdates! Dogs born in January and sometimes December by a commercial breeder rarely go into the pet stores as there is little demand as they can no longer be Christmas or Valentine Day pups! Usually only if the breeder also sells online do the pups get sold to puppy buyers and not to other breeders. I am surprised that he kept so many possibly related dogs! My Arnie was born in early January 2001 and only two from the litter went to pet stores and one was returned so 5 out of 6 were sold at the auctions. I bought some females-10 months old in Fall 2002 who were sold at an auction because that year there was too many B pups and the dealers/brokers were not buying any so the breeder sold them at auction. Bambi's litter was born December 13 2006 and none of them-4 in the litter made it to a pet store and the breeder was also a dealer/broker so she could have sold them directly. Jennifer
