@jengosmonkey said in Just saw this article - Popular flea collar reportedly linked to 1,700 pet deaths...: The subcommittee asked the company ... to issue full refunds to customers affected. So, your dog/cat dies from the collar and Congress sets a price on that loss equivalent to the price of the collar? Which is what? $20-30 (USD)? Clearly, our Congressional members are not dog lovers!

I would say it could be suspicious, and unfortunate that dogs died. But Debra is right, necropsies need to be performed to be sure. Dogs get into so many things without our knowledge. On the other hand, I never use these chemical flea medicines. I tried the topical ones and they burned the fur right off my dogs. These medicines are pesticides and if you read the labels they say to be careful and not to apply to human skin - safe really? I've gone to herbal (Doc Akerman's for example, no cloves) sprays even though they need to be applied every day. My excellent rabbit hunters often come back not only with the rabbit but also the rabbit's fleas. I've seen the fleas die and drop off immediately when sprayed. The ones with citronella also keep mosquitoes away.

@thunderbird8588: Ungrateful Robins agile, are american Robins different to British ones then? When we had Max our big Dog, i used to leave his fur around after grooming and it went to form many a good nest :) oh yes, very different. american robins are larger and the breast is a chestnut color. Plumage on the sexes are the same. Eggs are a beautiful bright blue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Robin and even though they are rather ungrateful, i enjoy seeing them around. last year they did not next on my back poarch, but the tree by the garage. the previous 2 years they were on the poarch. I just have to make sure the dogs are always leashed when the fledgelings start hopping out of the nest. And, for comparison, the English robin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Robin
