Hide and Seek

Basenji Talk

  • So Manning has decided that hide and seek is his new favorite game. He steals obects that we use on a daily basis and hides them for days or weeks at a time. It all started with the dogs' collars…We take the collars off the dogs to give them a bath and usually leave them off until they go outside. Well twice now Manning has either stolen his collar or Rascals. I can't find them, I turn the apartment upside down and nothing. Time goes by, I think the collar is lost forever until one day Manning comes sneaking into the den carrying the collar in his mouth! More recently he went fishing through my purse and stole my wallet...I had no idea until I was in the Starbucks drive-thru:mad: ! How to explain to the Starbucks window guy that I swear I had my wallet but my dog stole it? So four days later people ask why I haven't canceled all my cards, am I not afraid someone stole it? They just don't get it when I say that someone did steal it...he just walks on all fours, has a wrinkled face, and pointy ears! Finally, on the fifth day I find my wallet. Placed in the middle of the hallway floor right where Manning left it for me. Here I roll my eyes...stuff like that only happens living with a basenji!

  • He, he…..just make sure he isn't secretly shopping on ebay ;)

  • When I start receiving luxury pet items in the mail I'll know who the shopping culprit is! :D

  • Hey, I had a similiar problem with my Sahara, I had an appt. with my doctor about an hour away. Well, we are military retired and I have to have my ID to get into the base to see my doctor. I got there to discover that I didn't have my ID, it was in my cup holder on my car console. Well, Sahara was in my car right before I left the house trying to go with me, I had a real struggle with her to get her out of the car. So I had to call my doctor's nurse to let them know that I was almost there but didn't have my ID to get on base, that my dog had gotten it. I could not get on base, no matter what, I didn't have ID, so I couldn't get through the security gate. So what could I do but cancel the appt. and reschedule for the next week, but I did take advantage of the whole trip b/c there is great shopping there. I just went out to eat and shopped. What happened to my ID, well, I found it between the seat, she had left it there, probably when I grabbed her it fell out of her mouth. She loves to run with our stuff, it is all about the chase. haha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I always say, "You gotta love these dogs", or you would go crazy. haha!!!!

  • That is hysterical :D :D :D I am ROFL…this little guy is too funny!! Don't be surprised if a Limo rolls up in front of your house asking for a Mr. Manning asked us to pick him up from this address....LOL LOL :D :D :D

I believe this was one of THE most useful pieces of advice and games another dog owner had given us when it came to our puppy recall…. One day at the dog park I was talking to a man - owner of a Visla, about his dog recall and he went into a story about how his dog took off after a rabitt. He made a game of it and decided to hide on his dog, in which it took his dog 30 minutes to find it's owner and since that day his dog obeys his recall. We are lucky enough to to live in a building where there is an underground car park that is capable of holding 100 cars, but in our case there's only 6 cars, so we always play hide and seek on our B, especially after walks when his recall was poor. And because of playing this game, we have a dog that will come to us 80% of the time. We are still working on the 20%, but I'm happy that at 8 months he comes to us when we're out of site at the enclosed dog park. Now, if only I can trap a squirrel in the car park and put Kairoe to the test! lol. j/k [kind of] :o

I also thought of the heart worm pill iverheart and the frontline for fleas and ticks. would that bother them? i gave them the flea /tick over a week ago and the heart worm on the first…. other than that, they are pretty well watched 24/7. not a lot of chance to get into something. weird. i grew up with german shepherds. they were outside dogs, and very low maintenance. but so very loyal and independent. so this is very different. just want our babies to feel great and be happy!
