Another ice cube lover here. Kipawa totally loves them. We make sure though that he cannot see that they are coming out of the fridge water dispenser area. He is as smart as a whip and I fear he would figure it out. He also gets about 3 - 4 ice cubes in his water (fresh twice daily).
What is your favorite color pattern?

Tanza, that pic of "stickem up" is SOOOO hilarious! I literally laughed out loud. Thanks for adding that!
While I too love all Basenji's and would seriously take one in every color- I still have preferences. I like the reds with white blazes on their faces the most. Tri's come in second place for me- but it seems like some of their faces are better looking than others and I can't figure out what makes it that way- it's got to be slight variations in their markings. I'll have to study pics side by side. But I love their unique markings. I really wanted a brindle, but my hubby doesn't care for the color. I agree with BBoy that when their stripes are clearly defined, they look really exotic. Black & whites are probably my least favorite- I don't know why but I feel like they look more ordinary than the others. That is stupid, I know. All Basenji's are still better looking than any other dogs though! Holy Basenji snob!!
And Lexi was my first love, but she is what we call a "mouse dog"… because she is SOOOOO petite. She has a really small face, tiny frame, and even daintier paws! I think she has better white markings than Miles though. (Miles's blaze is off center) And I love that Lexi has only two freckles- right on her nose. I think of them as little beauty marks. Sexy Lexi!!
Okay, okay… Lexi's pretty much the super model of Basenji's now... she's has so many photo shoots, it's hilarious! When I pull out the camera, she'll run and pose... Cracks every body up!
I think Miles is a much more handsome Basenji. He's at the opposite end of the spectrum though- the biggest R/W male I've seen! He has a much more substantial head than Lexi. And their ears are pointed in slightly different directions. He's nearly impossible for me to pick up though- he's gotten SOOOO heavy now!! HAM MAN!
Everyone has such beautiful dogs! I really love them all!!

And even with that preference it didn't stop you from co-breeding a litter with a trindle sire. Having a preference for a color doesn't mean we can't appreciate a dog of a different color and even use those dogs in a breeding program.
Exactly… Lisa!!! and proud to be a co-breeder/co-owner!!!!

I also prefer not a lot of white, especially on the face…

My first intro to basenjis was a very regal B/W that came with my husband into our marriage. He was awesome and is still greatly missed. Now we have a male R/W. He is a big boy and has a pretty face. Red's definitely show off their wrinkles and assests more. Then there is our tri she is a devil dog indeed. So having had three different colors our conclusion is the black basenjis act different than the red. She acts like the B/W and nothing like the R/W. It is somethimes very scary how much she's like the B/W. We usually say" Welcome back Oreo".
So for me its tri and for my husband it just has to be a basenji. There are no other dogs as far as he is concerned -
What I do think is interesting is that when I've had a litter of mixed color - the same colors move to be together almost from the beginning. I've had it with R&W and Brindle, RW &BW and RW and Tri - eyes aren't even open and off they go to find their 'color mates'.

Yes, me too…. I had a litter of 6, 3 reds, 3 Tris... and all the time the reds were together and the tris were together... my Mickii was an only Tri... in a litter of three, 2 reds, 1 Tri... she was always by herself...

I've never met a Basenji that I didn't like whatever color they happened to be. :p
In looking back, I also can't imagine any of them any other color than what they already where.
Mother Nature's choice of color has always been right on in my opinion.:D -
My favourite colour is R/W without too much white on the face as it can make it look too wide. I also like the tri's but only if they have defined clear markings and a nice rich tan. B/W's are probably my least favourite colour purely because you can't see the expression as clearly. My next one might be a brindle if it has nice markings.

Maybe it is because I live with black and whites but I have never thought of their faces as less expressive. I love their heads.

I love the b/w heads too. I think the wrinkles are a big part of the expression and I can see those clearly on the b/w male better than I can see them on the brindle male.
I never thought much of the b/w's…...till I got one.....or two.
