Basenji Talk
  • Jasper's brother Talon, and Raven's Brother Grinner are coming to Basenji Park for a visit on Fri and will stay with us through next week. :D Darn relatives anyway!

    5 males and 3 females???

All 8 won't be together at one time…....;)

Should be an active week. The Basenji B&B is closer to reality than I think.:D

  • Oh my! My BP is rising just thinking about it ;) Have fun!

  • @Quercus:

Yeah, it looks to me like we'll get a taste of what it's like shuffling three groups around.

I can only imagine the sounds that will be emanating from our house.

    Thankfully, it's only a week or so.:D

At least you know what to do with so many B's. With me, every day would seem like a week! Good luck - Try and get a group picture . . .:D

It should be an adventure, I'll be sure to update as the week goes on.

We'll see if we can do the group picture.   I love a challenge!:D

  • How Will They All Fit In The Bed? You May Have To Sleep On The Floor :)

How Will They All Fit In The Bed? You May Have To Sleep On The Floor :)

We do have four sleep with us…......and a Terrier mix thrown in for good measure......everyone seems to find a spot.:D

Our two oldest, sleep with my oldest Son......seems fitting.:)

I think the two visitors are crate sleepers, they may be bunking in with my other Son.....but in crates. He could put them in his bed if he wants to.

We could just spoil them to death and when the owner picks them up tell her..........Oh yeah, by the way.....we fixed them so they don't need to sleep in crates anymore. :D :D :D :D

  • what do your neighbors thing? do you have a ton of land? I would love to see pics and stories as your week progresses.

  • @Mantis:

Not a lot of land…..an acre.......out in the country though. The B's don't make noise and most neighbors don't even know we have them.

Someone close to us have Husky's or something similar and they howl like wolves......... a lot. That would drive me nuts!

I will take pics Mantis.....count on it!;)

  • OMG! Get prepared - and lots of rest while you can! Looking forward to the stories and pictures! Lots of luck!

    Little Miss Basenji B&B:D :D :D

  • Sure…I'll be there for the color commentary, as you chase them around!

I guess I'm going to have to break the news to Talon and Grinner…....no pumpkin soup Boys! They'll be devastated! Live with that if you can.:D :D

  • Can't wait to see the pics!! :)

  • @BDawg1005:

Can't wait to see the pics!! :)

We had 8 B's here when your guys paid us a visit.;) :D

  • Oh yes please do share LOTS of pics and maybe some video too, IM SURE youll have PLENTY of video worth activity!!

  • We had a big get together once at our house and it was great seeing a large pack of basenji's running loose. Great fun

The funny part was telling which dog was yours. It's not that easy to tell when they are constantly moving about.

While out in the yard an unlucky chipmonk made an apperance and darned if 10 basenji;s could not catch that thing!

    Be sure to get pictures!

  • I want to know what your gonna be doing with all your free time.
I gotta believe your going with the "More is better theory".
That being said, you should be bored to death. :o (In theory :p )

My dog had an adverse reaction to the Heartworm edible I gave her, do you possibly give one? if so is it maybe related to that? I had to switch brands and she still doesnt feel well for 1 to 2 days after I give it, but it is not as bad as the other brand. Her symptoms were changes in consistency and color and frequency of bowel movements, she didnt eat, and didnt want to be bothered. And she ate grass.

Ladybasenji, where are you in Quebec? Montreal? We have a place in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) and one of my dogs might even be related to yours. You're experiences with your girl remind me so much of my first basenji, about 20 years ago–it gets easier, I swear! Let me know if you'd like help with Lady--they're nothing like labs and will never be "obedient" but there are tricks for training them : D

You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

I had nose surgery a few months ago and when I got home I was worried the dogs would be so excited and jump all on me, but it was crazy how mild mannered and dare I say tame/domesticated they were. I swear they knew I was hurt and gave me a day or so of good behavior. They are truly great dogs to own!

Jayden is super gross when it comes to what he'll eat: poop, vomit, and, if he pees on the patio, he'll lick that. Honest!!! We feed him and we feed him very well! Yucccchhhhh! Pat

There's no animal so resourceful as a hungry basenji. They were slighted you know for centuries being last in line at the cooking pot.
