Apparently, because of the pandemic, puppies and kittens are in short supply everywhere, and since female basenjis generally only have one litter a year, you might have to wait even longer. The theory behind the shortage of puppies and kittens (and even older dogs and cats) is that because of lockdowns, etc people are lonely for companionship.
Basenji Puppies UK

My kc registered girl, is due to have a litter in a couple of weeks. Long story short. I was waiting until her last season and was going to get her spayed. Unfortunately, my male kc registered basenji, managed to break through, into her room, whilst we were out. So.... I've had them both tested for fanconi and pra, clear! I've done an inbreeding score, which is 0
5%. I'm unable to kc register, as my male's breeder, won't lift his endorsement. Obviously, I told both breeders immediately, my girls breeder is willing to, however. The dilemma I'm in, is without being on the breeders file. I'm extremely worried, that the pups, won't go to people who have researched the breed fully or are experienced. I'm not happy to post them on the free sites, for fear of their new homes not working out! I'm planning on getting each new owner to agree, that if the pup doesn't work out, then they must be returned to me. Obviously without kc regististration. The pups won't have a safety net. My main priority, is to ensure that the pups go to good, deserving homes. Obviously, I'll vet each potential owner. Therefore, I'm reaching out to anyone, who knows of anyone in the UK that has experience or has researched the breed fully, who are looking to give one of these gorgeous pups a forever loving home. Both my girl and boy are outstanding examples, both with fantastic temperaments. Tia

I don't understand what you mean by this.... both your B's are KC registered, so why would you need anything from your males breeder?
-
@elbrant . Both my male and female, have endorsements on them. My male's breeder will not lift the endorsement. Therfore, I can't kc register the pups

endorsements
Forgive my persistence, terms (and slang) in the UK do not always translate to mean the same thing in the USA. Plus, I (personally) do not breed or show, so.... I am unfamiliar with the term:"endorsements".
My confusion might be coming from your statement that both of your dogs are registered... if they are registered, why would you have to get permission to register their offspring? In other words, if the parents are registered, then isn't that proof enough that your pups are purebred?
What does the term "endorsements" mean in relation to registering your Basenji(s)? Clearly, it's referring to some sort of rights, but what are they? And, is this something that is related to the CKC, AKC, or is it specific to the UK/EU?
-
@elbrant . Yes breeders in the UK can put endorsements on their puppies, usually to say they can't be bred or imported. I'm not a breeder either, when a dog has an endorsement on them, then yes you can breed your dogs. But the UK kennel club, will not register the pups. The only person, that can lift the endorsement. Is the breeder of the dog
-
@rachael Did you sign a contract with your male's breeder? Technically at the time of purchase, you should have signed 2 copies of the contract and/or a separate document explaining the endorsement. The KC would require that information in order to look into your situation.
-
Yes I signed a contract. I didn't have a copy. But I'm sure I would of signed to say I agree to the endorsements. I'd rather them.be kc registered. But as this was a mismate, I wasn't planning on breeding. I've posted this to really try and find good homes, for the pups. This is my main priority
-
People stop in looking for pups all the time, I'm sure you will get some type of response. Make your email visible in your profile so they will have some way to contact you.
-
@elbrant. Thank you. Will try that
-
@rachael Well, if your breeder didn't follow the proper protocol of giving you a copy of the signed agreement and document explaining the endorsement stipulation at the time of purchase, then technically you could challenge it with the KC. You certainly could make your case with them. Whilst the thought of any KC lifting breeder endorsements makes me slightly uneasy, I do hear & understand your fear that these puppies wouldn't have that safety net of registration. Have you mentioned having already medically screened your male basenji to his breeder? Perhaps that could be helpful in persuading him to lift the endorsement. I would certainly reach out in a follow up with the breeder to try and resolve the unfortunate situation. This "mismate" is a misstep, and I would hope the puppies wouldn’t in any way suffer because of it. I agree with @elbrant Post the coming details here. I'm glad to know you won't post them on the free placement sites. Those can be terribly dodgy. Please keep the community here abreast of your situation as potential puppy parents will see this post, and you could help a future someone out who might have this exact issue.
I hope I've been a bit of help. -
The only person that can remove endorsements is the breeder; Kc has no say in removing the endorsement if the breeder wants to keep them up
-
@Éilis . Thank you. I've screened both mom and dad for PRA and fanconi. Both clear. My first basenji died of fanconi, so I know what an awful disease it is. I've also done a coefficient test. It's 0.5%. To be honest, although this wasn't meant to happen. I know that these pups will be of outstanding temperament. I will offer lifelong support for all pups and happily take them back, if it doesn't work. I've got 2 ladies interested one already has a B, so she knows all about them and the other has extensively researched, thank you all, for your help. I'm hoping that a few more people, from this site will register interest

A quick google search would provide this nuanced answer:
"Any endorsement may be lifted only with the permission in writing of the endorser or of a person with due authority from the endorser (in the event the endorser cannot give permission due to death or incapacity) or by resolution of the Kennel Club Board."This is a resource for inquiring about making your request to the KC:
https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/forms/application-to-lift-or-place-an-endorsement/@rachael Again, I would continue an honest dialogue with your male's breeder, and see if you can come to a resolution together. At least try to reach out once more as you never know. Perhaps agreeing to contractually neuter your male to ensure a mis-step will never occur again could help this outcome.
These endorsements are in place for so many important reasons to protect the breed; not least to safeguard from unplanned puppies or BYB.
I'm hoping for the best outcome for these puppies.
And of course, do keep the forum abreast of the situation, and the details of the forthcoming litter. I'm sure you can find great placements on this forum.
Wishing you the best! -

Great advice... perhaps the males breeder could offer insights into breeding and information on preparing the pups for their new homes. (?) Just thinking that they may be more invested in relinquishing the endorsement if they have a hand in the outcome... or, perhaps, pick of the litter.

Update! Puppies are here. 4 girls, 2 boys. Mom and babies, all doing well
-
YAY!!! (please share pics as soon as Mom lets you)
-
@elbrant . Thank you. I'm so proud of her. She did so well. We didn't need to do a thing. Did it all by herself. All arrived healthy and seem to be doing well. I've tried to upload a pic, she's really chilled with us all. I'm a technophobe. Will try and figure it out

Use the "reply" link under the message to get the icon bar to appear.
The blue arrow points to the icon that allows you to link to a photo online (ex: Facebook). The orange arrow allows you to upload an image from your computer.
(note: I have not tested these on a mobile phone... theoretically, they should work the same way.)

@elbrant . Thank you will try on my laptop. Whilst writing, can anyone point me in the right direction, regarding supervising. I didn't sleep at all last night. I'm sleeping in the same room with Ada and pups. I'm frightened to go to sleep, but obviously I can't go all week, with no sleep. Will she be OK with them? If I snatch 40 winks? Thank you
-
@rachael Congratulations! Happy to know all is going well. What a beautiful early christmas gift. x
