  • Hi Julia, welcome to the group! Do you have a Basenji, or are you planning on getting one? (i.e.; Tell us something about your pup and give us pics... we all love the pics!) :)

  • Welcome to the forum!

  • Thanks Everyone for welcoming.
No, I don't have Basenji. But I am planning to get one. Currently, I own a Pomchi.
It's a lovely dog breed and very calm. But I am little confused about their behavior.
My Pomchi is temperamentally strong, let me know if Basenji can adjust with
    Pomchis.

  • I'm not sure how to respond to that question. Most animals (IMHO) will adapt to coexisting on their own terms, however, I do not see a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix being top dog in this scenario. I can easily picture a few "discussions" between the two before the issue is settled. I think the same would result regardless of the (second) dog's breed. How would you feel/react if your two imagined dogs had a scuffle?

  • @julia87 How much do you know about Basenjis? Have you met any? It's highly recommended to learn as much as possible about them before making a decision to acquire one. This would be a good place to start.

Most people incorrectly use the terms dominant and dominance with regard to dogs. Here is a good blog post by Dr. Sophia Yin on the topic. http://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/dominance_in_dogs_is_not_a_personality_trait

Whatever she is, she's a little doll. It's nice to know that the displaced pups are finding such good homes.

Yep, when it comes to Basenjis, it pretty much is a small world. Humvee, aka Tex Son, (he got his call name because he was the biggest puppy in his litter) has had a great show career, and you couldn't ask for a sweeter temperament - although the whole litter was was fabulous. His mom was a total love, and his dad is still incredibly handsome and devil-may-care at almost 11 years old. Hum loves to play with puppies and hang out in the house with his human mom. So although I haven't met Reba, I'm sure he will pass on his love bug genes! We will be hoping the news is good and you soon have a noisy, lovable troublemaker in your life. Terry
