  • I probably ought to explain Iron Hound a little. Every year the Northern California Whippet Club offers the Iron Hound competition over a 3 day weekend. It is usually held over Labor Day weekend but due to the whippet national being that weekend they are having it this weekend. Iron Hound consists of three events,
    LGRA - straight line racing
    NOTRA - oval track racing
    ASFA Lure Coursing

The dog of each breed with the best placement/scores for the weekend earns the title of Iron Hound. This year all 10 dogs competing today are entered in the Iron Hound Competition.

  • I bet that was a blast! Can't wait to hear about the next two days.

  • Here are Day 2 NOTRA results and the Iron Hound standings.

he checked out fine at the vet... said while unusual, it's not unheard of for shelter dogs to have pee anxiety/adjustment issues for the first month and since he is otherwise fine to just give it a few more weeks. he really peed in the park on a pile of leaves yesterday afternoon for the first time and was praised so loudly everyone else around me was laughing... but then peed on the rug in my apartment lobby again this morning. at least he's not too shy to pee in front of my anymore and thank goodness i live in a very pet friendly building! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: so we'll keep working on it! and anyone else ever adopts a basenji mix from the shelter and also has this issue you'll know you're not the only one!

@k1ng87: thanks guys! no parks for now until shes had all of her shots…should've asked before taking her as now I'm a little paranoid if she has contracted anything...if she has...when would symptoms show? Do they show fairly quickly, a couple days? That would of course depend on what she picked up. You are likely fine, I wouldn't stress about it. Just pay attention if her appetite is off or if you notice anything unusual in her behaviour, e.g. if she seems less lively than usual.

I definitely thing all trainers are different, this one we have now is not doing some things we learned when I took Otis for OB training, but then again he is doing some things we didn't do then. We have one more class/graduation next sunday then we are off to intermediate as well.

Congrats to all, it was fun running with your kids in KY. Our next AKC will be at the nationals, Xander just needs that last major and Trog one pt. We will just be running the AKC as I volunteered to work the ASFA event instead.

I love my martingales! I also really like the northwind collars. Kiora has a nice slip collar and a martingale lead from them. I also have a martingale from a lady who makes collars locally. It is really nice beacause they cannot back out of them but they are very wide so they don't cause neck discomfort. One of Kiora's collars is even lined with fleece..comfy! Also IMO The wide martingale's really enhance a long elegant hound neck. The Main thing is just like a slip/choke collar they are for walking only, you cannot use them as your tag collar because their is a risk that they will get caught by the collar and choke.

What a great story and great pics! It's nice to have a place where your dog(s) can run and play freely!
