@abonnard Pee pads got me through in the end, she would pee every 20 mins for the first months, then 40 mins, then she suddenly went to being able to hold it for many hours. One of the best purchases I got before she arrived was a small carpet washer, saved my sanity. The cleanup is so key otherwise they go back to the same spot.
Wannabe Basenji owner!

Hello!
My husband and I do not own a Basenji....yet....but we are definite that this breed is the perfect fit for our family! To make a long story short, we recently had to put our beloved cat down due to terminal genetic medical issues. I am allergic to both cats and dogs (I had my cat before I developed an allergy and it was not an option to give him up, so I dealt with the allergy issues.)
We needed to find a pet that will cause less allergens and fell in love with the Basenji breed after extensive research! We are located near Buffalo, NY, but haven't been able to find a breeder in NY that is expecting a litter.
Is anyone able to recommend a trusted breeder that is somewhat near us? We are willing to drive up to 8 hours to get our new fur baby! I know this is the season for Basenji puppies and we do not want to miss our opportunity! Thank you in advance for any help you can provide! We hope to be Basenji owners in the near future! -Shannon

We got our two puppies from Skywalker Basenjis in Hogansburg, NY. The breeder’s name is Dwayne and he has been wonderful. Our puppies are now 12 months old now.

No body can say Basenji is anti-allergic. But they are best for allergic human. And They are really good member of family! I hope you will find your baby in soon for a long time.

Basenjis shed and have dander and while they are OK for some with allergies, not all... best to visit with Basenjis and visit more than once to see if you have issues with your allergies. Note that Basenjis typically only come in season once a year and pups are usually born Nov/Dec/Jan....

My son is super allergic to most dogs and is completely fine with two basenjis in the home.

@karann - The key in my opinion is to visit with Basenjis before you get one... Of course I always recommend that regardless. But for allergies, ask the owners to prepare a small towel that the Basenjis will sleep on for a few days... take that home and put it under your pillow.... will give you a good idea if your allergies will kick up
