Looking for female basenji

    I am an experienced basenji owner who is looking for a female basenji, preferably a young adult or puppy that has been returned to a reputable breeder or one that has retired from the show ring.

    Approximately six months ago I lost my 6 year old female, Jasmine, to osteosarcoma and I would like to find a companion for her brother Jasper, who I believe is missing having another dog in the home.

    I’m located in western Pennsylvania, close to Pittsburgh. I have been searching the web and haven’t had any luck. I am aware of BRAT and the Basenji Club of America. I have also contacted several breeders in the eastern part of the United States and have been unsuccessful.

    Please reply if you have an available girl for me to love and provide her a furever home!

    I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost a dog to osteosarcoma several years ago and it was horrible. 💔
    I am not a breeder so I don’t have a girl for you but there are a lot of excellent breeders near you. Even if they don’t have and adult for you right now they could at any moment. My advice is to fill out their applications, get on their waiting lists and if you have Facebook like their kennel pages. My breeder friends will post dogs they are placing on their pages from time to time.

    contact Camp Basenji in Florida, as well as a facebook page for breeders listing dogs that are finished or didn't make it for showing. I forget the name but someone else here will give it.

    I live just outside of Pittsburgh and I recently got a basenji puppy from a wonderful breeder in Marion Ohio. I know that she’s placed three adults recently. Her name is Sue Kite of Klassic Basenji-(740) 262-6484. I can’t say enough good things about Sue and her partner Jeff. If she doesn’t have a dog I imagine she’ll be able to pass you along to her contacts. Good luck to you Make sure you use my name Melissa White.

    Thank you for responding. I have already been in touch with the basenji sisters. I was not aware before I contacted them that they are located in CA. I think the distance between us is too great. If things didn’t work out between my basenji and one of their girls, the distance would be a problem. I did become a member on the Facebook site that you recommended. Thank you so much! I was unaware that such a site existed.

    I am sure that Zande will chime in with suggestions, but know that this time of year all pups are spoken for with reservations for this years litters... you are most likely looking at possible 2021 pups. Zande can give you some breeder (responsible) suggestions

    All pups have been placed as responsible breeders have reservation lists. We are not at this time planning a litter for 2020 or 2021. I would be happy to talk to you about Basenjis. You can search for responsible breeders at www.basenji.org by state, however as far as I know all responsible breeders on the West Coast already have full reservation lists. You would be looking at litters possible in 2021. This is the time to connect with a responsible breeder and get on their reservation lists for 2021. And if you are looking for a dog that is hypoallergenic, Basenjis do shed and have dander so they are not really hypoallergenic. While they can do well with people with allergies, you need to spend time with them and more than one time. Be sure that you check out health testing yourself, regardless of what you might be advised. Tests for DNA testing is public knowledge at www.ofa.org. You need to have either a registration number or name to check this out for yourself to verify. I suggest all people looking for a Basenji, even my own, do this.

    Also, contact Pam Hamilton with Camp Basenji. She is in Florida, but has several lovely females. Most of her rescues are not posted because people get fixed on a dog's photo and often it isn't the right dog. She is superb as helping get a good match. http://www.campbasenji.org/

    I live in San Francisco and I'm very interested in adopting a Basenji! Could you please contact me and give me more information …. i have had numerous basenjis .. starting out with my two RAMSES and NUBIA they had pups .. and although they were not planned pregnacies .. went to very good homes.. I still have some contact with one family .....that bought two of our pups ...     Please do plenty of research before making a decision to have a Basenji. Where are you in the UK? - if near to me you are welcome to visit my Basenjis and talk Basenji talk. I'm no longer breeding but I think it's important to visit Basenji homes before making decisions. As Benkura says there don't seem to be any female pups available at present. The plus of that is that you've plenty of time to see as many Basenjis as you can. Most breeders are like me and would be pleased for you to visit with their Basenjis.
