Hi from Cape Cod

  • Fela Kuti is our third loveydovey basenji :) the other two we had for 17 and 16 blessed years. This new puppy's grandparents are still in Africa, part of the African AKC project. We feel so honored to be raising an african bush jumping dog, am sure all of you feel the same way. :) Thank you for having this wonderful sharing forum. from chris and tom on cape cod

  • Hello Chris,Tom and Fela Kuti. Welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing your stories and sharing some of your experience/info. I'm a long time Basenji person too, 30 years.

  • I'd love to see a photo. I'm going to get my first basenji in a week!

  • Hi and welcome! I love Cape Cod :) So who is the breeder of your pup? We also have a full African puppy right now.

  • we got our pup from Eldorado basenjis in north attleboro massachusetts, they are offering full african pups in conjunction with a breeder in new york. Tell me about your full African pup. :) so glad they are introducing new blood into the breed, arent you? did i mention to you that Debbie's Petland in hyannis mass has a basenji pup there with 5 toes, the dew claws were removed but there are 5 distinct toes with toenails. is that a serious genetic abnormality? from chris and tom

  • Is your Avongara from the Risha x Kasabu litter? If so then my half AF, Sophie is a cousin. Sophie's sire is Avongara Cole of Brushy Run, http://www.basenji.org/african/Cole.htm

What a sweet face! Thank you for taking her in, she needs a forever home. As Pat indicated, unless you have info on the parents being clear, or at least one clear, she should be tested for Fanconi asap.

dear muffen hi and welcome :) rescuing a dog is a wonderful thing, i hope this is a good option for you. i know brat has many dogs in florida that are looking for their forever homes. they do a great job of matching dogs to the right owner. disclaimer if you have small children it might be a good idea to get a puppy from a reputable breeder. luckily, puppy season will be here soon and there are a couple of really great breeders in florida.

Luzambo, I too had one pass last March. After that I was left with one and said once he passed, I was going to be done with dogs – too much of work and emotional strain. Yep, I was going to be free to... well, to do something. Then I found a little girl related to Brie just 2 weeks later and 6 months later I have yet another. Yes, they're a lot of work at times, but so is most everything in life. I love having them around and the house would be often boring otherwise. I'm sure Pharaoh and my Brie are hanging out in their private club looking down on us saying "what are you guys doing down there?" And with a signature like yours, I don't think you'll be waiting long. Welcome to the forum!
