@tanza Oh yes. I give her 1/3 cup blue buffalo puppy kibble, 1 tbsp wet blue buffalo puppy, 1 tbsp yogurt or cottage cheese, (alternating) and if I se any sign of dandruf or dryness in her fur, I also add in a few drops of olive oil. I have chicken and vegetables every night, and I've been preparing my chicken unseasoned since I got rogue so I can use it for training on occasion, so sometimes if she's being stubborn I'll bury some tiny shreds of chicken in her food to get her to eat, or sometimes I'll do the same thing with some other high value treats. I don't feed her in a crate, but I've moved her bowl into my room so she's lessdistracted at mealtime, and she has a safe place to eat when my niece comes over. Rogue plays nice with my niece outside, but indoors, she's kind of a really big squeeky toy, so we have to watch her constantly. I also, on the rarest occasions, will give her a little tiny pinch of american, or sharp cheddar cheese. That seems to get her really excited. She doesn't get excited about cottage cheese, but american or sharp cheddar? She goes nuts. fagedabodit. And she get chews and kongs in the crate, but never meals. And she doesn't spend much time in there anymore since she's been house trained. She just sleeps in my bed. In fact, she's passed out next to me right now.
Meet Chaga!

@taylor-rene-g - Have the sire/dam of her been health tested? Have you verified it at www.offa.org? And agreed, she is not a reputable. Please make sure to have your pup DNA tested for Fanconi and PRA if the breeder does not supply proof that the Sire/Dam have been tested. Dogs DNA test appear in an open data base at www.offa.org. The DNA test is a cheek swab that you do yourself. You can order the tests at www.offa.org

@taylor-rene-g Just out of curiosity... what does "Chaga" mean?
-
Great tri-colour coat.
-
@elbrant According to google it is a type of Mushroom.
-
@elbrant @BasenjiCN It's also a name of an African tribe!
-
@tanza Dad was tested for fanconi and was clear. Mom was not tested. I'll get Chaga tested. Thank you so much for the info! Is there any reason to wait or can you test a puppy? Again, thank you so much!
-
@basenjicn She's actually Brindle! She's just got a darker face.
Here's a photo of her riding her cousin, Cricket (my sisters horse.)

@taylor-rene-g No reason to wait! Here is the link for ordering. Tests are 65.00 each. https://www.ofa.org/diseases/dna-tested-diseases, go to Basenji PRA and Fanconi Syndrome
-
@taylor-rene-g Yes you are correct and they just adore Basenjis and of course Mushroom soup. They use the Basenji to hunt the Chaga, kinda like Truffle dogs.
-
People like you are why I avoid the forum til late spring! (Just kidding!!!) All the darling puppy pictures make me want one terribly!
What an intelligent cute face Chaga has. Welcome.

Verify with OFA that he is clear of Fanconi. If he is, your pup might be a carrier but cannot be affected. The only reason for testing would be if you planned to breed her, which hopefully you aren't.
-
@debradownsouth Considering that the breeder is less than responsible, I would pay for the test... well spent 65.00 for peace of mind
-
@debradownsouth sorry if I was unclear. Dad is clear per OFA. I'll be testing her regardless.
-
Sadly, Pat, you have a good point. Saliva tests are still honor system.
-
@debradownsouth Hunting "Chaga Mushroom(s)", and humour is selective as I am sure you are aware. I think of Amy Beth Schumer when I say this.

@debradownsouth ... "Chaga" refers to both an African Tribe and Mushrooms, the concept of a "truffle hunting dog" relates to the latter, mushrooms. Mushrooms, being a truffle, after all. So, there's no joke here about dogs hunting human beings. I'm sure it's just jet lag... I hope you are enjoying your new home.
-
No jet lag..one poster said also tribe, response wasn't hunt truffles, basenji hunt Chaga, it was hunt " the" Chaga. The op didn't disagree with my interpretation, another defended it as taste,, which wouldn't be an issue if the indication was mushrooms.
But considering the massive insertions into my comments by kindle the last months, I should not have locked on it. Posts deleted. Thanks. Giving benefit of doubt should always take priority....or ask for clarification.
