Lillie Loves Shih Tzus!

Basenji Talk

  • I have alot of different breed dogs in my neighborhood. I have noticed that Lillie seems to show a preference for shih tzus! She is very friendly to most dogs but for some reason or other, the 3 shih tzus plus 1 bichon frise (who looks somewhat similar to a shih tzu) seem to interest her more. Has anyone else found that your dog shows a preference for a certain breed?

    Just curious-

  • I do not have this experience, but all I can think of now is a white Lilly. . :D How cute that Lillie she's attracted to the white color. I wonder if she'd be attracted to a Spitz. Between my two, I don't notice they have a preference to any type of breed - yet.

  • Gezzzz. mine are attracted to white fluffy dogs… but as Prey...gggg They would love nothing better then to be able to "pluck" them bald!!!! My guys likes other sighthounds, but they grew up with them at lure trials... and one of mine fell in love with Silkys... One of mine took issue immediatley to dobes from across a field at a dog show.. and Rotties too.... and she was only 9wks old.... My Mickii thinks that P.Water Dogs are pretty cool and love playing with them at shows in the evening when everyone was out socialization (those of us who stayed on grounds in our RV's)..... She would chase this pup like crazy... and be chased until he would get to rough then she would turn around and scream at the top of her lungs at him... scared the poor thing half to death..... and of course people came running from all corners thinking that some child had be run over by a car...

  • Zahra really likes Siberian Huskies. When she sees one anywhere her tail spins around like a propeller, her ears go back and she jumps up in the face of the Husky. Really weird, this is the only type of dog that I see her do this with.

  • How funny mine likes Siberian Huskies too. At the dog park he loves to play with them and pull on their hair. He also gets very excited when he see's other basenji's at the park, he spots them right away from all the way across the park and goes running.

  • Well, good….at least someone does ;)

Huskies are shaped just like Basenjis….maybe that's it?

  • Most of my dogs are only excited (happy) about seeing other basenjis. Bella was raised with a black lab as a baby puppy, and she does seem to be attracted to them.

My dogs really don't like Boxers (too bouncy), or Bulldogs…too much snorting I guess.

  • Mine kinda liked schnauzers. Maybe cause of the size. They definitely don't like Spaniels.

I could list a whole lot of things but the snuggling under the covers is the sweetest. That's when I love her most. One thing I'm really really thankful for now that Abbey's 7 is that she no longer explodes out of the covers at 2 am when a helicopter flies over. Gotta love her for that. Took 7 years but my girl has finally grown up!

@Shaye's: If your baby yodels for you, your husband and your son, don't feel bad, they know who does all the work. At least Zoe yodels. My little girl has never yodeled, and on five occasions now in the past month, has barked - barked like a dog, each time when something made her nervous/scared. So depressing. I had a thread on here a couple of months back about how zoe at about 4 months had never yodeled. Someone told me to try and encourage her by egging her on. I did this until I was hoarse but I finally got her to yodel. Now she seems to be doing it more and more. We dont have a fence yet so when we are outside I keep zoe tied. When my husband gets home he stays just out of her reach until she gets so frustrated she yodels then we praise her and get all excited with her. Same with kitchen boundary. She isnt allowed so we stand in the kitchen untils she yodels (This is my problem they say I give up to quick lol) If we baroo she will usually yodels faster. My son came home today and again she ran to the kitchen door and yodeled for him right away didnt need to baroo at her once. BTW zoe also will let out what almost sounds like a bark when she is startled. Sounds alot like when you get the air knocked out of you. Or her baroo got cut short. She did it three times when kids came behind her on boards and startled her one after the other 1 burf sound for each.

Champ doesn't like it when I sing to someone other than him. If I snuggle with someone he'll try to come between us or pulls on my shirt. But when my daughter comes back from a long weekend away he'll get very excited and pull on her and also nip. This was a big problem we had before with our daughter but we began doing the treat thing. When she would wake up in the am she would tell him to sit and calm down and then she will give him a treat. She also started walking him on the leash and feedng him. We started showing him that she was an alph just like mommy and daddy and needed to be respected. On occasion when he does not relax and nip or pulls on her shirt, we'll use the empty can.
