    I've been owned by Basenjis for 30 years. I'm a very physically active person so we're a perfect match. Sadly last Thursday, 5/3 I had to help one of my Basenjis, Ringo, a 14-1/2 year old red/wht go over the Rainbow bridge to Basenji heaven to be with Saint Jim . I hope I'm not losing anybody on what rainbow bridge is. visit
    http://www.apubasenjis.com/RainbowBridge.html. He had a benign mass that grew and pushed against his organs/stomach. He could hardly eat and got very weak with a lot of weight loss. I couldn't see him suffer.
    My blk/wht is doing fine. I've also had a tri color that lived to be 17-1/2. She was a real trooper! They're all real troopers!

    Welcome Dan, Sorry to hear about your Ringo having to be put down. Please put up some pictures.

    Welcome and let me say how sorry I am about ur loss. As I sat here and read your message, my eyes filled with tears. I myself have also had to say goodbye to a wonderful furry best friend. Again welcome and I look forward to pics of all your babies.

    It's always hard to say goodbye, it does sound like Ringo had caring friend and surely will be missed. Sorry to hear of the loss, like the others…...post some pictures if you can.

    a few pics of the kids added to photo album… i can't figure out how to add to the post. hummmm i'll work on that. as a side not Jasper was selected as a Demo dog for the Dog expo June 11-13 at Cal Expo.

    I am a new and somewhat infrequent member but when I first joined, my elderly Basenji girl just started having seizures. I had moved to East of Nowhere and had no one to turn to and I am now SO LOYAL to this group and all the support and advice they gave me as a result. The good news is that Zeenie is doing well and her condition is under control: she is able to continue bossing her 3 other pack-mates as a result. I just kept searching for the right answer, very encouraged by the group I met online here. Thank you to everyone who assisted us. XOXO, Lauma and Zeenie PS: My brother Shaman is a new member of this forum (he just adopted Henry two weeks ago) and the boys are getting along well… Thank you for your support of them also!

    @mauigirl: Welcome to the forum! Do you know if your female had Fanconi?? Thanks for the information. Skylar was her name and she did not have fanconi. We do not know what caused the infection, but she lived for three and one half years after her diagnosis. The vet originally stated about 6 months, but we treated her with a blood pressure medication, 81mg asprin and later on malox. She was active and spry right up to the last 3 - 4 weeks. We do as everyone should, check our dogs with the strip test. Also thanks for the welcome…:)

    @youngandtired: Hi! Welcome to the Basenji Forum, this is a great place for chatting about our furbabies, and getting information. So, your baby is 4, please tell me that they will stop chewing, and surfing the tables. My Sahara, would be just great if she didn't do this. I love her just the same, but I have lost things I can't get back that she has chewed. My Basenjis right now range in age from 12 1/2 to 15 3/4…. :p They still surf, however they have pretty much stopped chewing... :D But that is just cause they are old.... and the teeth are not as great!
