    Looking to adopt a Male Adult Basenji in Ohio/Midwest area. I currently have a 4 year old Female Basenji and she is looking for a companion/playmate. We are located in the Greater Columbus, Ohio area.

    Are you strictly looking for a rescue or are you open to getting an adult from a breeder? Breeders occasionally have adults available and there are a lot of great ones in OH/Midwest.

    My dogs come from Tad Brooks (KY) and Jan Kahl (MO). Tad is about 5 hours away from me (I'm from Cleveland) and I know he has adults available from time to time :). I'm very happy with my boys from him!

    I am open to getting an adult dog from a breeder, just as long as he is neutered. I like to take my dogs to the dog park and that is usually a requirement. I will look up the breeders you mentioned to see if they have any available.

    Yes, I currently have an application in with BRAT. I adopted a female Basenji from there in Jan. of this year, but I wanted 2 dogs. I've expressed interest in a couple of dogs but they were all far away from me and I think the dogs went to people who were closer.

    Make sure your basenji gets along with the new one. My basenji George did not always get along with other dogs and especially other basenjis. We found George and his "wife" and their puppies. We found homes for most of them but kept two of the puppies and the dad, George. The two puppies and the dad did fight on occasion and it was not a good time. We ended up giving up the puppies , who were with us for a couple of years since they killed one of our cats and another of our dogs. I LOVED my basenji George, my love of my life dog, what a personality but I would not have more than one. Maybe the females are better behaved than the males as George and the one of the puppies were male. Did not get along. Your Vinny looks a lot like my George. George passed away on Feb 14 2018 at the age of around 20 years old. We found him in 1999 and he died in 2018. My husband and I say he is the one dog we will have the best stories on as we grow old. We rescue animals so he was one of many dogs. He certainly stole my heart- I miss him so much. Good luck in your search Helen

    Dear Debra, Thanks for the notes and looking up options nearby. We had already written to the Swiss basenji email address, but didn't get a response. We'd be willing to take him to nearby countries in Europe for the right fit. Perhaps now we will try writing to the other countries' basenji groups. He is such a lovely dog, and we want a good situation for him. He has come a long way and is much calmer now that he's a bit older! Cheers

    Hi Amy I am in Florida and have two Basenji mixed red and white boy and girl ready to be adopted the are 14 weeks old and just got their puppy shots yesterda and the vet said they look great. I have picturs cabrerajo@msn.com

    Its very hard not to be judgemental, but when I deal with folks rehoming their dogs, I do try to be kind. At least until I get the dog out of the home. Then I vent to my dog rescue friends. Sometimes, you just have to.
