14 yrs old peeing

Behavioral Issues
  • Hi we have an 14 yr old female who is getting to the point where she can't hold her pee…she is peeing un-announced...on her bed...on furniture....

What can we do if anything?

We let her often...even after she relieves herself outside...she will do it again right after coming in

    Advice please

  • you need to get senior blood work done and get her urine checked for an infection. Spayed females often will have spay incontinence as they age. There are meds for this.

otherwise, i've been putting pee pads down for my oldster when i'm going to be gone for more than a couple of hours. My old guy is 16+. My other one (passed in Aug at 16.5) had kidney failure that was diagnosed at about 15 years old. A dog door would be another option; just wouldn't work well where I live. Otherwise, maybe look into diapers. As they age, it really does become impossible to hold their urine for hours at a time. So, we just do what we can for the golden oldies.

  • Our Basenji had incontinence and sometimes there isn't anything you can do but we gave her probiotics and that helped tremendously. We used new chapter as it was water soluble and added it to her food. But in the end she had kidney failure so you should get her blood work checked.

Alfie is now 10 months old and still as naughty as hell. Yesterday evening, he was kept in the hall as the covers that we normally put over the leather sofa were being cleaned. This was not to his liking so he promptly found a way into my Son's bedroom and pee'd all over his bed. This is about the fifth or sixth time he's done this. Not impressed!!

Had a Corgi at the bark park come up to me, look at me with the cute face Corgis have, then lift his leg and pee all over my shoe. I gave him the same line I give She-Ra: "You're lucky you're so damn cute!" :)

@dcmclcm4: Sorry, I did not know the dog came from Carol Ann and is a full af. My second response is automatically the Fanconi health issue and testing. I hope she gets better soon and no longer has a temperature. For Bs with an unknown background, I recommend urine strip testing starting at two since there have been affecteds showing symptoms at three. I do this for all of my rescues but I also do the DNA test. That would have been mine also….. about testing for Fanconi..but I remembered that she came from Carol Ann............

Because she spent so much of her young life in a crate.. it will be a struggle, IMO, for her to get the idea that it is not an acceptable place for pee/poop… time, I think will reverse the behavior, but I would also say that she will "never" be trustworthy in a crate.....

This whole story is so sad and so sweet. This thread really needs a new, more respectful and descriptive title. Even though I understand the desperate frustration in why it was named this at the start. {{{hugs}}} to you, Rocky's forever mom.
