Is something wrong?

  • So a few days ago a woman brought over a small puppy and one of my mom's work buddies told her it was a B. We have had him for 3 or 4 days now and he hasn't really eaten. His teeth are still a little see through and so I assume he is still a young one. Less than a year, but he won't eat a lot, and now he's drooling a bunch. I don't know what to do or if there is really any thing wrong. This is the first time he's drooled like this. At first I thought he had an accident on me while we were in bed but then when I turned on the light his whole chin was covered in drool. It is sticky and smells a little off. My mom is a nurse and she told me not to worry about it but I am. Any help with this guy would be nice.

  • You need to take him to the vet for sure.

  • We second the suggestion to take the puppy to the vet. Who really knows what might be wrong with that puppy. Do you know where this puppy came from originally? Do you know if it has had any of its puppy shots? Sounds like this puppy needs a complete physical including a worm check and or treatment. We suggest, that you get this puppy to the vet as soon as possible. In the mean time you should attempt to find out the history of this puppy and any treatment ( puppy shots/worming) or anything else it might have had from the woman that brought it over to your mothers work buddies. Also see if you can get a number where you can talk to that woman directly in case you or your vet need more information. While what you do is up to you, standard procedure for us, it always to take any new puppy we get to vet as soon possible. We do this for the health, welfare, and safety of the animal and as a precautionary step.

  • A Vet for sure…. 1st thing to do, period. Puppies loose their puppy teeth starting at 4 months... never heard of drooling like what you describe... so without a doubt... Vet for sure... immediately

I couldn't find your picture so I'm literally speculating, but it could be dermatitis mange. This mange is caused by mites, which all dogs get from their mothers. Not infectious to other dogs or humans. You can see the mites under a microscope. If it is dermatitis mange, I'd ignore it unless it starts getting out of control since it's not harmful. I don't think you'd need a groomer unless your baby is seriously resistant to nail trimming. As others have mentioned, they shed a couple of times a year. Usually not a big deal.

No, I have not talked to the breeder. That is a good suggestion and I will do that right away. Thanks

You have no idea how encouraging it is to hear this. We took our 1 year old in for a dislocated toe…apparently he has lax joints and that toe needed to be amputated, at that time they x-rayed the other paws and the other back one showed up with lytic bone. The vet said this could be infection or cancer and to amputate that as well. We thought that was extreme at the time and didn't do it. Instead we took anticbiotics to clear up the infection...5 months later we are awaiting surgery in 2 days to have it amputated and sent off for histology. He's been on antibiotics for months and the new ones have taken care of the swelling but now his lymph nodes are enlarged and he is obviously sick. We have had every test possible without amputating and no answers as to whats going on...so happy your dog is going to be fine and have hope that our boy will get the same diagnosis.

I love, love Sober! Fell for him several years ago at Palm Springs KC. Sharla bred her girl Sassy (our breeding, Foress Illusion Hakuna Matata) to FoPaws Oh My God (Odin), who is down from Sober. Their daughter, Foresses La Dolce Vita, won the SCBF Specialty in 2010. Terry
