Basenji wanted near St. Louis, Missouri

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Hello, I am currently looking for a basenji. I live about an hour and a half south east of St. Louis; although, I am willing to drive pretty far for a puppy. I have never seen a basenji in person before but I have been doing research for over two years on the breed. I would prefer to interact with an adult dog before coming to the decision on whether or not to get a basenji, it would also be very helpful to talk to an owner face to face. Even though a basenji is the only dog breed I really want, I need to be sure that the basenji is the right dog breed for me. Even if you don't have puppies available I would really appreciate if you would meet me somewhere (in public of course) to talk about your experiences with the breed. Please message me if you're in the St. Louis area and you have a basenji! :)

  • If you send me your email contact info, I can put you in touch with members of the Rt 66 basenji club. We have a club walk planned the first weekend in Nov in the St Louis area as you coul come meet all our adult basenjis there. A couple club members did breeding a recently and may have available puppies in Feb too. I'm in Rolla, so that is probably a bit far for you to meet mine, but they will be at the Nov walk

  • Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I'm not sure how to send you a private message so I will just put up my email here: mlg34567@yahoo.com

  • Ok, sent you and our club president an email so you will get updates on the location of our Nov walk. We usually start around 10 am at one of the local parks

@inny said in A puppy or young adult Basenji wanted near NY, USA: Preferably near public transportation just out of curiosity, can you take a dog on the bus/subway in NYC? I've never been there, and I can't imagine a bus driver letting me onboard with my pup (unless it was a service animal), so... had to ask.

The only place I know in the UK that actually requests copies of health certificates from breeders is www.champdogs.co.uk I am sure if there are other sites and or places someone will be quick to correct me, but this is the only one I know. Hope that helps.

Where are you located? I have several breeders to recommend in the midwest! In the meantime, checking the BCOA list as Tanza suggested is a good place to start. Be warned though, puppies are being born this time of the year and many breeders have waiting lists!

Where are you located? There are actually a lot of options. Sadly, as of late, not a lot of basenjis being posted to BRAT. There are other rescues, including a great rescue for basenjis in Florida and California. Also, if you can't find a suitable rescue, please consider young and adults from breeders that they have decided don't fit their breeding plan. They also need and make great pets.

Mindy is a beautiful Basenji and we are very interested in her if she is still available? She would be a perfect companion for our basenji Travis. Many thanks, Birkin family.

Schouiffy, there is indeed a Basenji Rescue in the UK - at times there are sevral dogs there but at present there don't appear to be any but you never know! We are very fortunate not to have as many (even proportionately) to the USA. What a pity it would be so expensive and complicated to take some of the USA Basenjis. There is often a waiting list for rescue Basenjis here so it's often possible to rehome dogs direct from the original home.. Debra - it is unusual for a club officer to have this position but unfortunately the other coordinators resigned and nobody could take on the job. I don't think that there are the dedicated people here that you have in the USA and Canada. I do admire the hard work that is put in to rehome Basenjis there.
