Spay healing well?

  • Hi everyone :) just wanted to know if this thread even goes through -I posted to a reply and it failed too
But I just got my girl spayed 5 days ago (April 20th)and would like to know if everything is healing well ;) -got told to go back on the
30th-10 days later to get stitches removed /here is a picture of her sutures :) -also until today she was being carried down the stairs and couch ,now it's just the stairs as she seems to have no issues getting on and off the couch

  • Looks fine. I had my girl done 3 months ago and looks similar to her incision line. She recovered well and has had no problems since.

  • Looks good to me… at least from the pictures... and she should be fine to do stairs

  • :) thanks , for replies , :) she's great now playing and all :) 3 more days and stitches are out :)

  • I was lucky with Teshi. No stitches to remove, all were internal. She went back to vets after 10 days for a check and was given the all clear.

  • :) thanks everyone for the replies , ;) she's no longer wearing the cone and back to the vet on Wednesday to get her stitches out
Now we can have some real fun at the dog parks :)

@jkent - My Franie has phantom pregnancy, but hers comes to light about 60 to 70 days after her cycle which would be after she would have had babies (and she has never been bred). She attaches herself to ONE toy and only when she is this the cycle. She carries it around, crying, digging, and she will put the toy to bed in her crate and then come sleep in bed.. LOL! She knows exactly were this "baby is" every year... and this has been going on for 12 years... LOL. She put this baby away until the next year (in the toy box). This lasts for about two weeks, give or take.

@italeigha I've tagged this pamphlet before so you may wish to search the forum for the link which may still work. https://my.puppyculture.co.uk/resources/flipbook/spay-neuter-booklet It's full of facts and studies and Liz McCargo uses it as her reference. There's a free read-only version if you'd search: PUPPY CULTURE SPAY/NEUTER BOOKLET. Title page attached, if allowed. [image: 1640079058258-2.jpg]

Most Vets will not recommend spay during season and unless there is a medical reason for doing it now, will recommend waiting till she is at least 3 to 4 weeks past the end of her season. I would also agree you should put it off and wait. Keep in mind however the neutered males can achieve a tie with a bitch in season, however considered "safe sex"… but since you have two males, this could present a problem, so something to keep an eye on

No, i'm not on FB, but the universe keeps telling me i need to be, so ask again later in the week. Energy-wise he is great. Took all the curlytails out to the agility field today and he did a few jumps, tunnel, maybe the dogwalk. I think his new idea of agility training is to interfere with Zest and ask for food. It's a lot of fun to (try) to practice agility with 3 basenjis. It is heartening to hear you did not have to have the tooth pulled. That was sort of my thinking about asking the vet to wait to see him to give the antibiotics a little more time. He had only been on them 2 days (4 doses) when I noticed the swelling.

@basenji_fan: I've never heard about breeders recommending waiting till they are over a yr old, that is something completely new   there are other threads about this topic. A lot of breeders suggest waiting until about a year old, so that physically the dog is mature before the removal of the sex hormones. I would say *most breeders suggest between six months to a year is great. A lot of people would prefer that their bitch not go through a first heat cycle, and that their male not start lifting his leg…which can happen around six months old.

She is still bleeding. I rescheduled for two weeks from Thursday. Her mom bled for almost a month and a half before letting the dad mount her. This sucks.
