Good place to board?

    I'm going to be traveling for work for 3 days next week and need someone to help take care of her…I can bring her to the hotel but I would only be able to come back during lunch during the work day...I called one place (recommended by my vet)...and they said she gets 3 walks about 15-20min long but other than that...she'll be in a kennel...is it good for her to be in a kennel for long periods of time? She's only 13 weeks

    Can you get a dog sitter? I have dog walkers who also do overnight visits, and they are great! When I have to be away, someone is here with my guy all night, he gets a walk in the morning, someone is here at lunch time for an hour plus another walk, then if I am away more than one day she comes back at 4 p.m., walks him again, and stays overnight. Works great. Maybe someone in your area does something similar??

    Just wanted to give an update on my experience and hope that it helps others in the future. So I did get the puppy and have had her now for about 6-7 weeks. She is doing AWESOME! Shes completely healthy, and at 14-15 weeks, is incredibly obedient. For instance, I take her to the dog park, and she recalls every time I say "Nani come." There are also some agility obstacles in the park which I'm starting to train her on and she does really well with simple things like walking up, down, sitting, staying, gonig through the tunnels, etc… When I give her her food, I make her sit, stay, and give me a fist bump before she can eat, and I'll switch the order up every time. I then say "now you can have it" and then she eats. Its to the point now, where she is in the kitchen, and I'll go to my room, come back in 2-3min, and she is still sitting by the food and hasn't even touched it yet until I give the command. She is doing fantastic! Fantastic with other dogs, fantastic with kids, adults, everything. She doesn't have a tendency anymore either now to chew on things she's not supposed to and when she does get the urge, she looks for her toys. Not sure if this is just because the breed itself is very intelligent, or the breeder, or a mix of both but I couldn't have asked for a better puppy, especially the way she is now at the age of 14-15 weeks. My allergies also do very well around her whcih is HUGE! Not sure if I just got lucky or what, but she is great a puppy for how obedient she is already, her compassion, and her behavior. Just simply amazing :-)

    Hello Linda, was cruising through the Forum and here you are! Congrats on the new home. In case you don't remember me, I was looking for a B and you somehow responded then we spoke of the Rainbow Bridge…. I invited you to hook up your RV if you were ever in Fl. Anyway, the new boy I adopted is a Tri-and I noticed his left front leg is white just like Maxx's in his photos! Just too funny to see this! I just wanted to add as well, that if anyone in Fl has the need for an extended stay and cannot find a house sitter, I have boarded dogs in my 'front bedroom' that I dog proofed, and since I now have quite the friendly B, he would love to keep company with another I am sure!     Magnum's breeder is always willing to board. I've only had to do it once (for four days), but he came back his normal, happy self. Although I'm sure he didn't get the human lovin' he gets here at home, he got a lot of doggy interaction, which he doesn't get here at home. Since Mag's breeder is within a 1/2-hour drive from us, it was a no brainer. I realize that that's not generally possible, but, if you're close enough, it's definitely something to check out. Also, since we didn't get Magnum 'til he was over a year old, he was very acclimated to his breeder's environment. When we dropped him off, he was so happy to see his breeder and her family and his old-time buddies, he didn't even wave good-bye to us ;) . That was important to me, too. And the rate of $5 a day didn't hurt either.

    I had to board my basenji mix last christmas and it was probably the easy boarding of a dog I have done. I had only had Hollie about two weeks (I adopted her out of a shelter) and our attachment really started when I returned. However, I know my boarder as he is also a groomer who groomed my previous poodle mix. My boarder lives on site where his shop is and actually is the one who informed me that Hollie's other mix besides the whippet she was listed as at the shelter, might be basenji. Boy, was he ever right. My boarder has a strong background in dogs and has showed various breeds with AKC. I think getting to know you boarder well is a good thing, you can feel at ease when leaving your furbaby.
