    Hey, my name is Brad and my girlfriend and I bought 2 Basenjis to celebrate our 5 yr anniversary.
    So much of what I've read here has helped.
    These dogs are so active, mischievous, and smart! I love it!
    They keep us on our toes and bring laughter to both of our families!

    They've learned their names, sit, stay, and go potty. We've only had them for 5 days lol.
    They hop the baby gate we bought already too!

    You all are gonna have fun with that one. He/she looks to be just a puppyand it had no problem going over that gate. Our Mr Baroo had only been with us for 3 days before he learned how to open the back door to go in and out of the back yard, proving that they are too smart for their own good. We wish you luck with them and years of enjoyment.

    Welcome, how old are your pups? Care to share who you got your pups from? Many of us are related by our Basenjis. My only suggestion with two pups at one time is that you need to put extra care into making sure they bond with you and not just with each other

    Looks like you will have your hands full! The video made me chuckle, especially how quickly it happened and how the pup looked excited to make it to the sofa!

    Adorable face - probably a devil in hiding :p If the biting is clearly play biting a firm NO should work (and see previous comments). If more serious then try bitter apple spray. You definitely want to stop this type before it gets out of hand. Mine (3 yrs old) occasionally will bite (gently and really just a mouthing) when trying to get my attention to play. But you can tell from her expression that she knows she did something unacceptable. Consistent training is the most important thing you could do.

    @annyaa: um not that I know of, what is it exactly. And I will contact the breeder tonight and ask her. Please go to www.basenjihealth.org This is very, very important, especially if you have been following the thread of Isis that was just sent over the rainbow bridge from Fanconi… please seach the boards about Fanconi and testing

    I was struck by the fact that your Bernese lived to be 20 years old! Wow! I know they have had concerns with cancer in the breed, and very few of them live that long. How wonderful for you that you got to have her for that long. Terry

    Sean, as a new member of the Forum but an old doggy daddy I have had a lot of experience with many breeds. Reading about your requirements for a dog I have to suggest that you consider getting a rescue greyhound, it will be a great companion for when you run and the rest of the time they are very laidback. Basenji's are very intelligent and require a good deal of intellectual stimulation, otherwise they get bored and a bored B is a mischievious B.
