Photo of my new basenji

  • Here is my basenji Lillie and my son Scott. I have had Lillie for 2 1/2 months now and I am absolutely IN LOVE with her! Of course she is keeping me on my toes! My husband had this picture enlarged and placed on a calendar so I can see it everyday at work.

Hi Jodie - Lillie looks like a smart little girl! She's so pretty! Handsome son you got, too! She looks so happy and surely so are you! Very nice union. So glad you found each other. ;)

  • Welcome jodie. She does resemble chevy.

  • Welcome Jodie!! what a cutie patootie :D :D :D

  • Thank you all for replying. Lillie is very special to me because previous to her I had another rescue dog (sheltie/shepherd) who I got at 3 months old. After finding out (at 8 mos.) that he had hip dysplasia (both hips) he had surgery and swimming therapy. I put alot of hard work (and money) into this dog and he just was not a nice dog. Which was very unusual to me. He bit myself, my husband and my son. I had to bring him back to the rescue shelter because I could not have that any longer. My son, Scott has autism and I wanted to get another dog right away to show him that all dogs were not like Ricky. I am so happy that he has bonded with Lillie and that she is loving to him.

    Jodie:)

  • I hope it all works out for you all. She's a cutie, welcome to the forum.:)

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

@basenjimamma There is nothing quite as dog-friendly as a Volvo Estate for transporting Basenjis ! Mine have always ridden to shows in them - two large crates can accommodate 6 Basenjis in comfort. I am on my 5th, I think - could be my 6th. The last one did 216,000 miles. That was the square tank-like version. The current 10 year old V70 is overall broader, but without so much space inside, which means a single crate is all it will take. But it is enough for my age-depleted pack.

She is sooooo cute!! At first I thought "how fuzzy!!!"….and the more I looked the more I thought this looks like a punk-rocker Basenji:D A little hair gel and a little vegetable dye with a spike collar and spike ankle bracelets......what a great halloween costume:) Adorable dog. Thanks for sharing.
