If you would like to see (online at least) what a traditional basenji hunting bell looks like, Jon Curby has placed one on Ebay to support the Congolese School at Epi. This school is in the area of the DRC where the Avongara native stock basenjis came from. John Valk, the headmaster for the school, and the local people were instrumental in helping the basenji fanciers find great dogs to bring back. So, in turn, the basenji fancy often gives back by donating money to support the local school, often through hunting bell auctions.

So consider bidding on the auction if you want a little piece of basenji history. This bell is pretty old and well used.
To help give back to the people where these dogs came from, our local basenji club usually gives a large donation or has fundraisers to support this school. We created a Facebook page for it which has some additional details about the bell on it.
