Family Tree?

  • @eeeefarm:

    PPM? (Persistent pupillary membranes)

Would not be PPM. PPM is visable when they open their eyes at birth. Even with very heavy PPM, it looks like a spider web in the eye.. not a spot. Heavy PPM at birth (when they open their eyes make the eye look blue as it is a sheeting over the eye. As the eye grows, the PPM doesn't, it sort of like a rubber band that pulls and breaks, but heavy PPM is still visable to the naked eye. But again at his age, it would really just look like a spider web. Since PPM is there from the time they open their eyes, you would have seen it way before now if it was still causing a clouding of the eye.

Could be many things, Cataracts come to mind even at this age. That is why best to have it check by a board certified Ophthalmologists

  • Good info to know Tanza! Im def. getting him checked…hope he's not starting to go blind in that eye...that would stink...since hes only 4yrs old.

@theoriginaldev As others have said, an older dog would be better on neutral ground. A puppy will probably go really well. From my own experience, a bit of initial posturing from the older dog, then when they realize it’s playtime...the games will commence. Good luck!

@tanza: Exactly, I agree with Lisa… the hardest part is to talk them into taking it easy. However, that said, I very, very rarely use any medication for pain on a Spay or Neuter. I would rather they feel a bit of pain to slow themselves down. (After the first night) I think you will find in 3 or 4 days you would not even know that she had a surgery. Thank you Pat…very comforting to know she will bounce back in a few days or so.

If possible have Sonny meet the potential roommate on neutral ground, a walk together in a park or a small dog park. They may not be "love at first sight" but if they don't hate each other, and play a little, they will probably be OK. A pair of neutered boys can be best buddies, male/female pairs sometimes bond very closely and sometimes not so much, keep an open mind for a good personality match and you will love what you get, and so will Sonny! Good luck! Nothing like getting your dog a dog! Nicky is Topper's dog, and Eddie is hers.

I really appreciate all of the replies… the advice & suggestions are invaluable. With everything in perspective, I feel I lot better, and I can't wait to meet some Basenjis! I think we may go meet some this week, and we're both really excited! Thanks again! Carrie
