It took about 30 seconds!!!!

Basenji Talk

  • I really don't know how he did it. Today We had a very long walk from 5 to about 7. soo he was really tired and had been lying down most of the night. He was lying in bed and i was working on my computer. I had ordered sushi for dinner and when it was here i got up to open the door. At that point Ayo and Rosita ( the poodle mix that I found and kept, ill explain later)came to the door. I closed the door behind me and spent about 30 seconds receiving the sushi and paying the guy, i had the exact amount so I didn't have to wait for change. When i came back in I found my cell phone, which was at the dining table lying on the floor by the door. It was open and the battery was missing.. both Ayo and Rosita are at the door as if they had never left.. I leave the food on the table and walk back to my bedroom and found the bed was completely destroyed, I mean , all the covers , the sheets, everything was on the floor in a bundle, and on the bare mattress was the cellphone battery with a dent in it and acid was pulsating out of it!!!!!….... my first instinct was really stupid I went and grabbed it, and it was REALLY hot and the acid burned my hand...!!!
I still don't know how he.. or they,..but I know it was all he.. did that. I grabbed him and rinsed his mouth but he obviously didn't get any acid on his mouth.... ... I really don't know how that happened in , seriously, ... seconds!!

  • all i can say is… wow!

  • Oh my. They must have been planning that little escapade for weeks - just waiting for the right moment to strike! LOL!

  • jajajaja.. i know.. its as if they were just waiting for my to get out the door!!!… .. I'm laughing but my hand hurts.. thats stuff is dangerous!!

  • Did they get your sushi while you were washing your hand? That would cap off your evening in true basenji style!

  • Jajaja…. I know. I madre sure they columna reach it!!!!

  • I'm sorry about your hand but ;)

  • @MacPack:

I was thinking the same after reading the story. :D
That would then prove their supreme intelligence. Cause what other breed of dog would be able to set up such an ingenious plan to steal sushi?

  • @bewler:

Wow! 'Planning' was my first thought, because how in the world could any living thing do that much destruction in so little time! And they say basenjis are not smart…. ha!

  • Too funny and so true. You can't leave anything for two seconds and they will have it ate or shredded. True basenji style.

  • I agree….. I think that was their whole plan.. they must have set it into action when they heard me call for sushi... everything was going as planned until the battery started spewing acid.. I think at that point they freaked out and went to wait by the door as if nothing had happened.!!!!

  • That's certainly sounds like a basenjis motto: when all else fails and there's still a chance for plausible deniability- act like nothing happened!

  • Basenjis are very good at pretending whatever happened had nothing to do with them. I remember visiting a breeder who had five adults loose in the house. It was a rainy day. The dogs, of course, knew this. After we had conversed for a time, the breeder noticed a puddle on the floor. When she pointed it out, all five Basenjis surrounded the area, staring at it with that "wonder who did that?" look on their faces. It was not possible to discern guilt from anybody's body language. Little innocent beasties! :)

  • hahahahaaha, i can't imagine what life would be like with 5 of them… I worry that when i get another their just gonna tie me up and take the car!....
by the way, i noticed that I have been laughing in Spanish,,, and i realize how ridiculous that must sound to all of you who are reading it in english.. so no more jajajaja... ... it just that hahaha sounds like AAAAAAAA to me....:)

  • My heart was racing, was sure they destroyed your computer. Glad just the phone, and sorry about your hand– but really nothing they do, nor any level of speed in doing it, surprises me. Demons. They really are.

I am a musician and I spend a lot of time reviewing music. This means I'll be sitting at my computer, headphones on listening to a song and unaware of the outside world. My girl sunshine knows that when the phone rings, I'm supposed to answer it. So when it rings and I'm on the computer with the headphones on, she'll run up to me and "bark" in her way and jump on me to alert me to the phone. She'll then run ahead of me to the phone and watch me as I answer it. She'll also alert me when the doorbell rings or someone in the household yells for me. This she learned all on her own. Dumb dog? Who are they kidding! (to CBS, here's a major rasberry call just for you! thhhhhhhhhhhhh)

@felakuti: I wonder where the light golden eyes come from…our brindle is from the african project, cayote? jackel? There are a number of different basenji lines that have "light" eyes, both domestic and from the Af project, but the standard for all basenjis is dark eye
