For the Love of Mud

  • Right around the corner we have a MASSIVE dog park with tons Trails and a large open field. I take Kentucky every evening for about 2 hours. He runs around with every breed of dog possible and just loves it. He is off leash the whole time - mainly trying to catch squirrels or little dogs that resemble squirrels.

    Until now!!!!!

Here is his new favorite activity after rainy days. Not only does he walk through EVERY MUD puddle but he likes to take a bath in them, rolls around, dunks his head, herd every other dog in with him.

    OH JOY!!!!

  • Looks like he likes the taste of it too! Sounds like he's having a blast.

  • You must be a GREAT dog lover!!! Two hours of play AND full of mud!! I hope you can walk to and fro rather than loding his lovely muddy self into a vehicle!! Thanks for the photos.:)

  • Too funny! You're lucky it's mud he likes. My first B, Casey, liked certain "unmentionables" during our walks and she would home in on those and roll in it.

  • I wish I could walk home and just stick him in the bath. But he rides in the back with towels and blankets that I wash. By the time I get home he is ALMOST clean. Thank goodness for cat like cleaning and short hair!

I do need to come up with something a bit more comfortable for him and was thinking as he gets his balance better maybe he can go in a buddy seat behind me. We will see but for now he is still okay up in front. As he is only 5 months he still can't walk along for very long but that will also come as he gets older. In regards to desensitizing my horses. All I can say that it is many miles of riding, wet saddle blankets and making sure that every scary monster or obstacle that you come across is introduced and explored. Also, having their trust and being the leader makes a big difference as they are accepting of anything that you ask. Dakota is especially accepting and I call him my "Star Trek Horse" as he bodly goes where no horse has gone before. He accepts any kind of vehicle, heavy logging equipment, chain saws, blowers, musical bands, all animals, sirens, lights, helicopters, parachutists and even had a remote control plane flying over our heads once. He is quite special. My other horses are pretty much the same but like to stop, look and assess more often. My husband and I laugh because we purchased a quarter mare 9 years ago and had her shipped over from the US. She is a daughter of a 3 time world champion reining and cutting stallion. Guess what? She is scared to death of Swiss cows in the field with big bells. But, in the arena she'll work them fine for cutting and team penning work. Who would figure. Jenga is quite cautious around the horses when on the ground which is good. It is funny how he can pick up on a "stink eye" and know where his place is.

Well done L'Ox - he must have been a very good boy! Only of mine is mad about toys and still has his first puppy ones (6 years ago!) - the others end up detsroying theirs.

Great pictures folks :D I think the phrase 'Chow Hounds' really applies. In the month with us Leo has learned that he gets no food while we are eating. So he lays on the rug under the table making sure we don't drop anything. If there is food on the table with no-one around that is fair game, my Naan the other night was a target. He will 'surf' the counters as in this first week picture, but now if we see him he knows OFF is coming so he pretends that he stretching with a 'What!, Who Me?' look.
