Sexy Basenji - XXX

  • Andrea's post pretty much sums it up. Your boy is perfectly normal and I suspect the humping is simply an expression of dominance or assertiveness. Caeser is trying to tell the other males that he is the boss. The same with Beta.

Also, humping or an unusual interest in the penis area can sometimes be a sign of an irritation. Sometimes a urinary tract issue or sometimes maybe a grain of sand in the shaft. This is rare but it can happen.

  • @Mantis:

    Is Cairo a sexy boy?

Why doesnt he hump me and just humps Caesar and my boyfriend? Not that I have humping envy, just curious.

Is this a sign of a sexy dog?

HAHAHAHA!!! Take him to a doghouse of ill repute!!!

    "humping envy"…hahaha!!! That's funny.

    Thanks for the laugh.

    :D

  • So was Caesar the weird one? He never humped anything as a puppy and Cairo is the crazy hump player!!

I don't know. It could be your boyfriend. How many brothers and sisters did he grow up with?:D

Sorry: smart elic answer, because I have no clue.

  • oh, I know, it is silly isnt it…..

I really miss my little girl........she was sooooo cudly compared to the boys....

  • Our Chance is going on 15 weeks and he has "humped" a few things. His favorite thing to hump is my back :(
I will be sitting on the couch and he will worm himself behind me and try to hump my back. Of course I stop it immediately. I even went to the extent to purchase him a "hump doll" from the store. He would rather hump the cat or me instead :(
It has concerned me..The last thing I want is a dog who humps in public. Thats a real conversation starter ;) lol

  • I believe that this is one instance where negative reinforcement might be helpful. That's the way dogs teach each other to give them space, maybe it would work with humans too. Any one else have any thoughts on using negative reinforcement in this situation?

  • Senji is 11 years old and was "fixed" at 6 months. He never really humped anyone, but first thing in the morning after he wakes up, he has his morning "boner". He just kind of air humps for a few seconds and then licks the exposed part of his penis.

  • Vegas, I think you are talking about punishment…negative reinforcement is actually a different principle, that I won't bore everyone by getting into. But yes, you could use punishment here, I suppose. It would depend on what you and the dog viewed as punishment though...I probably just re-direct the pups attention, and find a more appropriate way to play.

A squirt bottle might be an appropriate punishment here.

  • Querk humped one of our male friends' arms (or tried to, we saw when he got the look in his eye, and distracted him). He did it for a few weeks when he was little. He is intact, and he grew out of it. But he has never been a really "testosteroni" kind of dog. He only humps now when the girls are in heat. Has to be 'his' girls, and it has to be at the peak of estrous. We have a special humpy blanket for him, so he doesn't violate the couch cushions ;)

Hahahaaa!!! LOL :o This thread is so funny - reminds me of morning radio host talk on a rock-n-roll station here in Detroit. Can we get any more descriptive? :D :D

Sorry, I don't have anything to contribute, but I find this thread entertaining. Thanks!

  • When my dog wakes up from sleeping he sometimes humps air and walks while doing it. It is so strange, like he just cant help it. Must be some good dreams:p
Anyone who has seen this just cracks up.
Other than that he humps my boyfriends dog but that is a way for him to get her to play and she really doesnt mind she (Phoebe the frenchie) just kinda stands there and looks around.

I dont know what to make of any of it, I am just glad he does not do it in public

Squiggy does this too, I have never heard of it. He doesnt "expose" him self, but he does look around with a look that says "huh? what is going on?" or it could be "darn it, who woke me up?"
he doesnt do it all the time, but when he does it is so funny. Air humping :p

For what it's worth, I have noted that in households with a strong human leader/boss/alpha/disciplinarian (pick one!) there are less squabbles among dogs, at least when the human is present. My neighbour has Rotties, had two bitches that hated each other and would fight, but they didn't do it when she was around. She did have to be careful that they could not get together in her absence. ;) Interesting anecdote: If my mare is bothering my old gelding and I notice it, I can break it up by yelling at her out the window! Guess I am "alpha" in that herd.

We've had barely a dusting here but its been cold enough to keep it on the grass. Mr. Annoyance is acting like its "rutting season". In, out, in, out. If I don't jump up to let him out he proceeds to pull at the blanket over my feet, or worse yet, bills/mail on the coffee table (much like teachers, bill collectors won't believe "the dog ate my check"). It's kinda fun though 'cause he's also just more playful in general right now. A couple more weeks and he'll probably hate the cold and snow like every other self respecting Basenji is supposed to….:D Silly Basenjis...don't they know their rep???:)

Move the crates to different rooms. The female won't be able to see what's going on. Give the male his food first, then feed the female a little later. Don't let them out of the crates at the same time.

I agree with Catherine, socialization is a must, but it depends on the personality of the individual dog. When we had 4, they all slept on the bed together and ran together and rarely did we have any problems. We added a puppy and things were still going ok, just really crowded. However, one day our youngest girl decided she was all grown up and didn't want to be bossed around anymore by our 'wanna-be' alpha. Neither of them was a true alpha. We managed to defuse the situation, but a month later it happened again. The girls could never be together again. In fact, the tri developed a predjudice against all red girls after that! Both girls were terrific with people and with Basenji males and even with males and females of other breeds. I had 2 intact males, brothers, who stayed together with absolutely no problem for almost 4 years until one went to another home. They even got along during season. Terry
