Natures Domain Kibble

Hi folks!
I have recently switched kibble to Nature's Domain from Costco. The salmon & sweet potato variety.
http://www.naturesdomainpetfood.com/I've noticed the dogs have become itchy, my girl more than my boy, and am surprised because I have had them on a variety of the popular grain free kibble varieties. Origen, Acana, EVO, Taste of the Wild & Fromm's - and they have had pretty much every flavor/ingredient combo made by manufacturers. I have not had a reaction to any of them except for stool consistency/color which is due to the richness of the kibble varieties. I really like the value of Nature's Domain being it is less than $1/pound. I know a lot of basenji/sighthound people that feed this kind of food and haven't heard anything other than good reviews.
Has anyone else had a similar reaction?
To my knowledge neither of them have any food allergies, as they have had salmon & sweet potato on previous occasions and included in other kibble formulas without a reaction.

While I have never tried it, I would have to say there is something in there that would be causing it…. way to find out, change back to one of the others and see if the itchy condition stops... that would be your answer.

I've been feeding the same salmon and sweet potato formula from Costco for about 6+ months with no issues. Actually, we have even better coat condition! I find it to be a quality grain free food at a good price and it suits the Basenjis and Ridgebacks well.
Our foster girl has lost weight on this formula and her coat is improving, while the other foster boy (who became a permanent pack member!) has gained some weight he needs. He was a dog that would not eat kibble, and he loves this formula. (Once I tried the turkey version and he refused to eat it!)
A win-win in our household. No itchies at all. Have your dogs recently got new beds or anything different? Did you mow the lawn and stir up bugs? I'd try adding a fish oil capsule to the mix - just my two cents!

I was really happy with the ingredients/value of this product but apparently it's not the food for us.
Nothing new in their environment, lawn is overgrown and I haven't put any kind of treatment on it (fertilizer, etc…) and no new beds or laundry detergent, etc... I've noticed them becoming gradually itchier over the last 3 weeks since the switch. I've switched back to my previous kibble and anticipate happy hounds!

They have had 3 baths in the last 6 weeks which is more than usual but the shampoo I use has been the same kind that I have always used without any reaction, Tropiclean - made from natural ingredients. Their coat condition is fine, shiny without dandruff so it doesn't appear dried out or irritated and their skin looks normal.
We shall see, I'll report back in a week.

Well, it hasn't been a week yet but while working in the yard today the bf encountered a noticeable amount of mosquitoes while mowing the lawn. He came in with numerous bites. The back portion of our yard is lined with arborvitae along the fence line. The dogs spend a lot of time running in and out of them as they run the fence with the neighbor dogs and one of our neighbors does have a pond. The dogs are still a bit itchy but Ono has stopped chewing herself. So that may be a part of whats going on, i'm thinking Dude is probably just itchy with bug bites and Ono was probably experiencing sensitivity to the food along with bug bites. With the recent fair weather in the Pacific Northwest they have been spending a lot of time outside lounging around.

Mosquitoes can give our B's fits, because they don't have hair long enough to keep from getting bitten. My B is as sensitive to the bites as I am, and if she gets bitten will worry with the bites constantly. If I give her a Benedryl, it calms it, and sometimes will even put a drop of Benedryl Gel on the bite itself. Helps me, and seems to help her too. If it isn't the food, it could very well be the bites, but not over a large portion of the skin - it's very clearly only where the bite is. If it's the food, probaby switching back will help. Nutro Natural Choice has a salmon and sweet potato combination, if that's the flavor they like.

Libby, my pack is one Natures Domain as well, we do both flavors, and so far no issues here either, and we have been eating it for about a year. My dogs love it and is thriving on it for sure.
I hope you find what it is that is causing the itching because that is so stressful for them and you too. -

Even after long years the link is still working.. Thanks for posting the link.. I'll try and look if there's a reaction on my dog's too..
