They love eachother so much

  • Thanks all!

When I hear about people get rid of their animals when there will be a child, my heart hurts.
With so many good things about the combination kid- animal I just don't understand such people :(
The only thing "we" have to do extra?
Just watch them when the are together, explain Ryan he has to be carefull with them and respect them and the dogs react on Ryans behavior.
Because Ryan behaves so well with dogs, the dogs tread him as the tread eachother only more carefull.

My nephew and niece had a little Cavalier king Charles and when the first child was born, she had to stay in her crate so much, when the second came, the doggie girl moved to a new family.. I was so upset about his.

Also a basenji boy we know, he lived with two little boys and the boys were being so disrespectfull with him he was growling at them.
They pulled his tail and all these sort of terrible things..
So the Basenji boy had to leave.. :(
He now lives with a great family, with a young girl.. She adores the boy and they love eachother so much..

Children will learn so much when they grow up with animals, never force them to be animal lovers, just guide them spending their life with animals and they will become respectfull and hopefully LOVE animals just like Ryan :)

Our animals are at the same "love" level as Ryan, they mean as much to us as Ryan does.
Lot of people don't understand that…
Why do they think it's not possible to love your whole family equally?

  • Great pictures, your sentiments on family life with pets is how it should be

  • Your pictures are wonderful, great proof of children-pet fine friendship. Congrats!

  • Lovely testament to how it can and should be..living together as family is a wonderful experience for the child and for the animal. Awesome pictures Kim.

  • What a marvelous series of photos. Thank you so much for posting them.

  • I love the photo with the kid, the bunny and the basenji, i believe that kids get more love from the dog, that viceversa. Ryan will learn a lot from the basenji :D

  • And people say B's and kids don't get along! When my grandson came to live with us for a year, Shadow was 7, Sugar 4.5, Zina, 4.5, Damisi 3.5. None of them every bothered him as he was taught, by my daughter, from the time he was able to move around, to respect the dogs and they would respect him. Johnny is now 1.5 and they are 'best friends.' It's all in how you raise both of them IMO.

  • Those pictures made me smile so much my face hurts…:)

  • Thank you all so much! :D

@ Arlene, we hear it all the time, even some people/ breeders that know us will say Basenji's aren't good with kids because they are afraid??
I do believe you have to "know" enough about dogs to get the combination of dogs and kids working so well. (it's up to the parents)

  • Great pics as always Kim!! :)
All three boys are too cute together :D.

PS: When I am looking at these pics I think I will have to post some pics of my little niece with Bs here too ;).

  • Irena, I did saw a picture on facebook I think? So cute!

I do need to come up with something a bit more comfortable for him and was thinking as he gets his balance better maybe he can go in a buddy seat behind me. We will see but for now he is still okay up in front. As he is only 5 months he still can't walk along for very long but that will also come as he gets older. In regards to desensitizing my horses. All I can say that it is many miles of riding, wet saddle blankets and making sure that every scary monster or obstacle that you come across is introduced and explored. Also, having their trust and being the leader makes a big difference as they are accepting of anything that you ask. Dakota is especially accepting and I call him my "Star Trek Horse" as he bodly goes where no horse has gone before. He accepts any kind of vehicle, heavy logging equipment, chain saws, blowers, musical bands, all animals, sirens, lights, helicopters, parachutists and even had a remote control plane flying over our heads once. He is quite special. My other horses are pretty much the same but like to stop, look and assess more often. My husband and I laugh because we purchased a quarter mare 9 years ago and had her shipped over from the US. She is a daughter of a 3 time world champion reining and cutting stallion. Guess what? She is scared to death of Swiss cows in the field with big bells. But, in the arena she'll work them fine for cutting and team penning work. Who would figure. Jenga is quite cautious around the horses when on the ground which is good. It is funny how he can pick up on a "stink eye" and know where his place is.

Regardless of how she looks - the fact is that having 2 bitches together is frequently a disaster - it will work until it doesn't. In a young puppy standing toeing out is not so bad because as they develop they will have more spring of rib and the feet will correct to front. Toeing in this badly at 2 will only get worse - judges that are hard core sighthound judges will put her to the end of the line with that much toeing in. (Pat Craig Trotter comes to mind) I like the neck shape better on this one - but again from the picture we are looking at just parts - how the dog uses what they have is the main thing and we can't tell that from a picture. Take your bitch out - learn what it's all about so that when you develope an eye not for what is available but for some lines that you like - you can find a nice male to join your house.
