The Basenjis and the electric tooth brush

Basenji Talk
  • My Basenjis love to watch me primping and grooming. Last night, they were curious what I was doing with a Waterpik teeth cleaner. I gave them each a little squirt of water and they loved it.

Next, the Bs were curious about my Oral B electric toothbrush. "Oh, look, she has something in her mouth. Think it's good to eat?" So, I changed the brush and brushed their teeth without turning on the brush. Next, I turned the brush on while it was in their mouths and they didn't get scared, but thought it was FUN. The girls were standing up, hitting the brush with their paws, and coming back for more.

These Basenji characters never cease to amaze me.

  • I have always used a battery toothbrush on mine… LOL

  • Medjai won't let me use the regular toothbrush, but he let's me use my sonicare with a seperate brush for him just fine.

  • I've tried the electric tooth brush on my B, he was not happy with me. He put up quite the fight. I really wish I could use it on him as it would really be effective over time.

  • I use a regular tooth brush on Buddy's teeth but when I use the electric myself he comes running when he hears that humming.

  • Will have to try the eletric tooth brush never would have thought to use that on Jaycee. Will see what happens.

  • If I walk close to Riley while brushing with the electric toothbrush he runs away, like he's not sure what that's about. So the other day I turned it off and put it on the bed and he did that very cautious, unsure little dance toward it. Nudged it a couple times, poked it, smelled it. I took it away when I thought he might give it a bath, haha.

  • they are peculiar buggers. omar loves his teeth to be brushes. manual brush only, please. but HATES to have his body brushed?

  • Otis does have a fascination with my Oral B, so long as it stays in my mouth and doesn't get close to his..manual is the way to for him..

@weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

lol usually when you breed a bigger dog to a smaller dog the Male is the tiny one. Its just dangerous to do it the other way around. As far as DNA breed testing I would go for it if I could. But i am just interested in those kinds of tests. We offer them at our clinic but i haven't ever seen results for them.

@phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
