2 yr old tri needs home in tx/ok

  • Yes, we have contacted Basenji Rescue altho they have not contacted us back yet.

  • @joeliz@wf.net:

We want to travel so Lucy needs home. We live in Wichita Falls, Tx. She is a sweet dog and loves children but very stubborn and has occasional peeing accidents in home. Would love a place where she could run and play. We're older and she doesn't get enough exercise. Has all shots and has been neutered.

Did you get her from a breeder? If so you should contact them as they will most likely take her back.

  • No we got her from Basenji Rescue and I contacted them but they have not contacted me back. We've had her seven months.

You signed a contract with BRAT that says if you can't keep her you have to give the dog back, correct?

  • I don't remember that but that's what I would like to do. I wish they would contact me so I could give her back. Is that their usual custom?

I just adopted from a Basenji Rescue here in CA and yes I had to sign a contract. What's the person's name? Maybe the rescue lady here in CA can help. Don't you have papers that you signed?

  • Just curious? Why did you get her in the first place? Did you not know 7 months ago that you wanted to travel?

  • Brat will take back any dog they rehome.
If you give me your information, I will share it with those folks in Tx who need to know.
you can do it privately, if you wish.
    I am at brescue@wavecable.com
I am one of BRAT's workers, and would be happy to help you, if you have not heard back from BRAT.

  • I am so sad that Lucy has to be rehomed. Seven months such a short time. I hope BRAT gets her back and to her forever home. My herat goes to Lucy.

  • Have you heard back from BRAT yet? Please let me or Sharron know and we will try to help you out. How quickly do you need to place her?

  • BRAT is here to help any basenji in need.

  • Houston

I am also in contact with my Texas Brat assoc. to see if we can move this along..
Hang tight, we will get BRAT in contact with you regarding Lucy. By the way, the contract you signed when you adopted her states that you are obligated to let BRAT know if you no longer can keep her, thanks for contacting them..

  • I am the Texas District Coordinator for BRAT. I have been trying for several days to contact you regarding Lucy, but a filter is blocking my email address. Due to long work hours and various other commitments, telephone communication is difficult at this time. Please email me at crazybasenjilady@yahoo.com to discuss. We have a volunteer lined up to retrieve Lucy from your home at your earliest convenience.

@naz-roseberry I think it will work out well with Cutlers "Grandma & Grandpa" lol. I think that the move to a new neighborhood with 10 times the kids upset Cutler bcoz it was 10 times more noise than he was used to. Plus, I think some kids teased Cutler when you weren't right there with him & it was just too much for him noise wise & the teasing just flat pissed him off! At least Cutler is still in the family! He knows the people he's going to live with & he'll be able to see his before family when you all go to visit! I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to have to put him down just because he wasn't able to adjust to the new neighborhood. I'm really happy that you don't have to go thru that too. Hopefully, all's well that ends well ~ right? Take Care! Nancy Berry

I second the notion that a puppy might not be the right fit. There are many mature ones out there that need homes, and would (hopefully!) be less of a hassle, although some Basenjis never seem to outgrow the "puppy" stage! :) BRAT is a good site to start your research, perhaps right here: http://www.basenjirescue.org/REALITY%20STORIES/default.htm

I believe Pat/Tanza is referring to JEssica's dog [can't remember his/her name] and Julie's Diamond. The problem with Diamond was that while his Linkage Test was Probable Carrier, he was from a Probable Carrier x Probable Carrier breeding, which means that Julie SHOULD have been test stripping because this dog COULD have easily been affected due to the results of the parents… and having seen it happen to one of my dogs [we are in the same club]. My dog's linkage test result was Carrier and when re-done on the linkage test was Carrier again. She passed before the Direct Test and I have no idea if they ever re-did her test on the direct test to see if it was a DNA recombination or data entry error. Diamond's initial results [that were sent to her] were p. Carrier and were obviously a data entry issue as when they re-tested on the Linkage test he DID test as p. Affected. This was done AFTER he started spilling sugar, as he wasn't strip tested until he was showing obvious signs of Fanconi Syndrome [excessive drinking and urination]. I am with Debra… with over 5000 tested, there is room for error, it is possible with anything where there is human input.

Shes super smart. I just wanna see her go to someone who has more time for a puppy. I have yet to hear back from BRAT about posting her on the site under Mixes. She's very dog friendly and SUPER playful.
