  • thanks for the link! I expected more exitement in the Rally :D I think my dogs will be bored to death having to do that, it doesnt looks Rally to me

Sounds like y'all will have so much fun..yes show them what Tillo can do..with B style.

  • I will be interested to hear how Tillo gets on. When we get our Basenji it is something i would be interested in eventualy.
My Dad is thinking of taking their Papillon. He can already dance, jump through hoops and go through a tunnel at home so i think he will do well.

  • Good for you Janneke! Looking forward to hearing about how much fun you and Tillo have with the new activities. It's definitely more fun to diversify!

  • <<thanks.. i="" have="" no="" doubts="" about="" us="" having="" fun..="" do="" wonder="" how="" the="" other="" owners="" will="" react="" when="" tillo="" acts="" like..="" a="" basenji..="">>

The people will probably stand around the ring, laugh, whisper, snicker. At least that's what I get! But I have fun, so what the heck!

One lady came up to me after I was in the ring with a very stubborn (typical B move-I don't want to do it attitude) Shadow, and asked me what happened to my lovely little dog. I told her - He's a BASENJI!</thanks..>

  • Tonight we had our first agility training!! It was soooooo much fun!!! Tillo loved it!! He's such a quick learner! Can't wait till next week! :D :D :D

Tillo must be very motivated by treats. I could never get my B to do this as he's not motivated by treats. He'd take one look at the agility equipment and say "OK, this looks stupid".

I'm glad Tillo likes it. It's nice to see a Basenji with an interest in agility training. :D

No, it's not about the treats. He likes it, I think, because of the adrenaline, the speed and the 'weird' obstacles. He just thinks it's very exciting! :D

Sounds like so much fun…do I need to remind about pictures..?

  • Does sound like fun wish we had something like that close to us. Were we could at least try. Have fun going again.

Hah! I haven't got any pics!! ..gg.. that's something new, isn't it! :D

It's alreay quite dark around the time we have training.. and Job has to make sure Lycia isn't crying.. But maybe next week.. Maybe a video.. we'll see.. :)

  • Just a little update/brag.. Tonight we had agility training and Tillo did it all.. off leash!! The weeks before he just kept running away as soon as the leash came off.. but now he was nearly perfect :D He's such a smart boy! :D

    Still no pics though… :o ;)

  • Now thats impressive, well done Tillo and Janneke

  • Houston

I'm not sure, in your situation, I would leave the dog outside until he made the decision to come in. It almost sounds as if the dog had bad experiences inside at the previous home and outside was the only place he could stay or maybe was forced to stay; anyway you now have to counteract all that. All the good points have been made by others, now you have to put them all together. Do not let the dog outside without a long lead (long closthesline or whatever); when you say come reel in the lead and treat and praise. You have to be consistent too; use the same word, treat immediately, etc. Also I don't think I would leave the dog loose outside until this is overcome. If possible I would also take the time to be outside with your dog (still on the lead) and play with him and praising and treating for any good interaction he does. Also you might want to have a special treat just for the come command and for entering the house. He does not get this treat until he comes and/or he enters the house - but make it something really special that is not given except for this purpose.

@snorky998: Congratulations!! Has Tillo been showing lately? How long before Lycia goes home? I'm sure Tillo's going to miss her. Thanks you all for the congrats :) Tillo hasn't been shown lately, he just turned 27 months so he can now win his last CAC for his Dutch Championship.. His first big show is at the end of June :) Lycia will leave the second or third week of April. Tillo will probably miss her very much and hate me for it :(

My curry comb has short little nibs very close together. It collects a lot of those little hairs and then I just rinse it under running water using a finger nail scrub brush to clean it out. Takes a less then a minute.
