Chezz is over the Bridge
-
Ten years is far too short a time to enjoy the company of such a lovely, cuddly, outgoing Basenji as our beloved Chezz.
It kind of took my breath away when she still seemed to be fit(ish) but our very respected vet told me on the Monday that a decision would have to be made sooner rather than later. I have NEVER been told by a Vet to think about euthansia. . . I was really shaken.
But she had a mast cell tumor which throws up inflammatory histamines and her body was one solid rash of bright red. Aloe Vera didn't help - the cause was not superficial, it was a deep m.c. tumor.
By the Friday it became clear there was only one course of action, so I made the call and grabbed a spade.
She died in my arms, Ian did a beautiful job and she just faded away and now she lies between Ziggy and Deedles at the far end of the wild-flower meadow.
Trouble was a tad concerned at first to have lost her Mom but Hoover is lapping up the extra attention.
Marvin will make a head-stone shortly.

The hurt will go and be replaced with happy memories which are legion. But not immediately. Its still very raw. Bournemouth next day was dreadful. But friends I met on the Show car-park were wonderful. And its great to be among friends here..
We've lost so many over the years and they are all special - Chezz was specially special, possible cos we didn't breed her, she seemed to ask to come and live with us when first I and then Marvin visited a litter our Curly had sired.
I have to stop looking at Plessy who had her 15th birthday the day Chezz died and wondering 'WHY Chezz ?' It isn't Plessy's fault.
Thank you

Sally I am so sorry to hear about your great loss.
Know that Chezz is running in the fields and playing like a pup again on the other side of the bridge. -
I'm so sorry; 10 is way to short a time span. I hope you can find peace sometime soon.

O am so sorry for your loss :(
I wish you all the strength you need, and remember: those who live within us are not truly gone. -
I'm sending well wishes to you and hope that you soon find fond and happy memories that sooth you through this sad time.
Rest peacefully Chezz and we hope to meet you over the bridge some day; all of us (2 and 4 legged) pain free, healthy, watching a spectacular b500 and the gutting of a few toys for good measure.
Condolences Sally.

We were very sorry last weekend to hear about your loss Sally.
I always think that the one great thing we can do for our dogs is have the power to put their suffering to an end - i have had to do it 3 times in the last 2 years (all dobes over the age of 12) - and it never gets any easier.
