Our dog has eaten a whole ear of husked corn

  • We could slather her in mustard?

Yeah after 8 years of these dogs you think you would learn that.

  • I had a RW, Ringo that even when he was 14 would grab old garbage off the ground on walks. We were on an off leash walk and that dog once ate an old, dead dried out bird, when we got home he puked it up on the couch.

  • Our little corn dog would eat baby birds that fell out of their nests, like gummy worms.

You can never get anything a way from her in time like that. The words Devour & Gobble got they're meaning from the way a basenji eats.

  • My new tri, Buddy picks up garbage including old chicken bones on walks in the neighborhood. He's not a gobbler so luckily I'm able to grab them out of his mouth.

The only thing about that report was that you had Ringo on an off-leash walk! If mine was off leash for a moment she would be hunting on the other side of town, then the next town, etc. All the time we're walking her nose is on the ground, and dead stuff interests her most, so I have to keep her short-leashed.

  • Corn dog - on a stick ? :)

Corn dog on a leash? I'll take 2 please with relish.;)

  • I'm ROFL hysterically!!!! I can relate to the love of dead road kill EEWW!! But the "Corn Dog" LOL LOL LOL

  • One time I left a large See's Candy chocolate bar too close to the edge and Ringo nabbed it. When I got home there were only a few small pieces of foil on the couch. He loved to rub against anything with a strong smell. So one morning I left a baggy of freshly ground up coffee on the dresser. I was in brushing my teeth and I heard this wrestling around and thought "what's going on in there". When I looked in the room he had taken the bag and ripped it open and rolled around in it. The whole bed and him was covered in coffee grounds. I had to laugh!

  • Weirdest thing our dog ate was a foil coverd granola bar, wrapper & all. We fould the wrapper almost fully intact in his crate the next morning.

  • @nobarkus:

Make it a habit to keep things pushed back from the edge of the table/counter. I've seen a dog eat a cob before without ill effects but I don't think it's good for them as they may choke on a chunk. Try to control your corn dog. (-:

I think they are known for causing intestinal blockages if eaten uncooked. My beagle ate a majorly over-cooked one once and it made him extremely GASSY! He was definitely a corny dog though.

Even cooked they are known for blockages… mine would eat them and usually within 3 hours would "give" them back.... sigh

  • Cody once knock off the the counter a christmas tin full of brownies. I was away on vacation at the time and had a House/dog sitter. They frantically called me to ask what was in the tin b/c there was no evidence left. :) He was ok, but just a little hyper. That same vacation we lost power at our house. The sitter fired up our old wood stove and to keep my babies warm grabbed all the blankets and they all slept on the couch together sharing body heat. Luckily the power came back on the next morning.

  • Corn has no value to a dog anyway, especially the cob.

@vickilb: My little BRAT, Hunter, LOVES to make his own trails when we go hiking. Last year he got one of those Foxtail seeds stuck way the heck down his eardrum. He had to be put under because it was resting on his ear drum and he wouldn't hold still for the vet!!! $500 later, he is as good as new. Do I take him to the same hiking area, you betcha!!!! Those foxtails are BAD! We have them here in the summer, and they are everywhere, so there is not much we can do. Yes, that kind of vet procedure can cost quite a bit. What we don't do for our fur babies!

Also - does anyone else's Basenji drink in threes? When Cody drinks he goes "lap, lap, lap, pause, Lap, lap, lap". For some reason this just cracks me up. Maybe because he's so consistent. Or maybe I need to get our more! LOL!

@obi1 said in Ear Rash. Dog Ear Vasculitis: Do you know of better ear muffs? Obi, I saw a funny looking knitted cap that might fit over Basenji sized ears on etsy.com. I think it would help prevent the ear edges and tips from becoming frostbitten. The shop seems to focus on Cats, but the owner appears to be willing to do special orders. Worth a try....

Our red girl dog has the same problem. Freaks out when you touch her ears with a swab, but loves the inside of her ears rubbed when petting her. You know the two handed ear & cheek rub. That gave me an idea!. I found some real soft white - tight gardening gloves (unused), gave her an ear massage and cleaned her ears out. it worked well. I was extra careful not to push the dirt down her ears, but did kind of a wiping motion out and away from her inner ears. She loved it!
