First Licens Runs

Basenji Training
  • for Panda and Jester are on the plan for tonight. Please keep your fingers crossed, that they do what they are supposed to do and do not come to other Basenji-ideas….

Little Shakti is also going to have a Baby-run. Which means not more than 100 or 200 m in a slow speed to test, if she is interested (her mother does not like coursing, she thinks its boring).

   ;)

    Regards,

    Esther

  • How exciting!! I have my fingers crossed for tonight! Anybody there to take pictures..? :D

  • I try my best, but as Panda and Jester are supposed to run as a team as well, I do not know, if Andreas will be able to start both of them at the same time and I guess they will not allow anybody else besides us to touch them in such an exciting moment….

    Regards,

    Esther

  • How exciting..yes we will keep our fingers and paws crossed for them all to do excellent..

  • They did sooo well….

Everything went perfect and they behaved really good. Even little Shakti did her very best to jump through the high grass and get the "rabbit".

Pictures (watch out, it is really a lot of them) are to be found in our galleries with yesterdays date.... http://myndeklubbengallerie.seelenfreund.dk/#59.0 http://myndeklubbengallerie.seelenfreund.dk/#58.0

Jester with the blue muzzle, Panda with the orange muzzle and Shakti "bare naked".

    Esther

  • Great news. They look like they are having great fun..

  • Do you use slip leads in Europe when running your dogs?

    http://www.allhoundsapparel.com/custom/list.asp?c=20357

  • some do, some don't. I was thinking about a better thing but a thin collar, because there still is a risk that the dog gets hurt for some stupid reason. I have bought some agility lead thing, as a retriever lead. But this does not work that well, if the dog is tackling the prey, so a slip lead would be a good alternative…. I think I can have someone make one or two for me, so maybe we have a new "top seller" soon.
Specially Denmark is not very used to Coursing events. We do not have regular track racing under FCI regulations as here in DK you can bet on sighthound races. Coursing is quite new here and on August 8th the first national Championship is held. Next Year we hope to participate with the B's in a own coursing section, hopefully...

    Esther

@k1ng87: thanks guys! no parks for now until shes had all of her shots…should've asked before taking her as now I'm a little paranoid if she has contracted anything...if she has...when would symptoms show? Do they show fairly quickly, a couple days? That would of course depend on what she picked up. You are likely fine, I wouldn't stress about it. Just pay attention if her appetite is off or if you notice anything unusual in her behaviour, e.g. if she seems less lively than usual.

Deb, that sounds like a great class, did you take it locally? I would be interested in taking that class!

I worked on Kipawa's training yesterday at the dog park, where there were many distractions. His recall is excellent there, but that may be because he just needs to feel his mom is close by? Then when he gets to me I make him sit, then he gets a treat. In the house it is a little different. Recall is about 60% right now, but sit is very good - about 80%.

I've run into similar situations with the kids in the neighborhood. When they saw me walking my previous beastie, they would come running. I always told the kids to stop and let my dog smell their hand so he could tell if they were good or bad ("oh I'm a good girl" :)) and the kids surprisingly obeyed. Now when they see me with EL D they remember and do the right thing. And sometimes I hear them telling their sibling or friend "let EL D smell you first".
