• She is beautiful. I've never really been a huge fan of the black and whites (no offence meant to any people who own them) but Kayla is a beauty!

  • We are all entitled to our preferences (tricolour is my least favourite colour) as long as we leave them behind when we stand in the middle of the ring.

    Exactly 😃

Im not a big fan of black pugs but when i judged at Boston last year i gave a black Best Puppy 🙂 Was a stunning little dog.

The black and whites do look very flashy, i always think they look very nice in the ring but the tris and reds are my favourites. I honestly couldnt say why 😕

  • You don't have to have a rational reason 🙂
I gave a tri dog BIS at the Norwegian specialty, and a well marked and coloured tri is a very attractive sight. But I do like my blacks.

And yes, Kayla is lovely; maybe we'll see her at Crufts one year.

  • Since i started showing my Basenji I have been surprised at attitude re colour of some people in the uk. Whilst i love the tri colouring, i would far rather have a healthy and typical b/w or brindle than a poor tri or red. My mother has only been to a few basenji shows, but she was very taken with a certain little b/w girl being shown at the moment - i can feel i might get talked into having one sometime in the future…

I wasnt saying that i wouldnt have a b/w if it was a choice between a good b/w and a poor tri or r/w 😕 Or that i dont like the b/w.

Just that, as we all have preferences, of the 4 accepted colours for basenjis in the UK the b/w are not my favourites. I still think they are beautiful dogs (as are all basenjis in my opinion!) and conformation, health and temperment should come before colour anyway 🙂

  • Sorry Maya i certainly wasnt meaning you - we all have our personal preferences of which we want to live with - i have too - i was referring more to breeders and judges who sort of crinkle their nose and look a bit distainful if you mention b/w or brindles.

Like you - i love Tris - especially if they are marked as well as your girl.

  • Ah, ok. Didnt want to come across as though i was saying anything but r/w and tri i dont like lol

I think the colour thing happens with most breeds as far as judging goes. I have an apricot pug - many judges wouldnt give him a second look (and have said so - they just say they dont like the colour/dont think it should be recognised) so we havent shown him much. The same with our chocolate labs, we pick our judges carefully!

I know a friend who has dobes that she shows very occassionally and she said its the same sometimes with the brown ones (not sure if theres a correct name for them!!l). Its sad that judges cant see past colour sometimes…

  • I personally prefer R/W but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate other colours, construction is more important than colour.

There's a certain little B/W bitch that lives very near to me and I have loved her from the first time I ever saw her! Probably the same one as Elscodoberman's mum!

  • Houston

She is truly a beautiful B. Very lucky family back in Sweden. I guess I should way in on my favorite color, of course Brindle is up there as #1 and if I get another one day…I want a red/white little princess..dark red..beautiful..

  • I have to say that in my humble opinion, photo's do not do the 'non reds' justice!

Having seen Tri's in the flesh, there is a real depth to the colour that is not usually born out in 2D and I would have to assume the same for Black and White's.

Hmmm, I can smell weakness! Must go off and devise a cunning plan!

  • LOL. I think by this time next year i will have enough to keep me occupied! i suppose one of each colour would be good - next time john asks what i want for my 40th birthday present i will have an answer already prepared….

And she is a good girl most of the time, for a Basenji; now she is getting over the Kevin stage. (Honestly, they do get over it. Eventually).

I think you might! Hope it works out well for you, it's an exciting time.

  • Miss Kayla is beautiful, well done!

  • Beautiful girl!

  • I love this bitch! She has a pretty head, graceful neck, level topline, nice tailset with shelf, and lovely angulation front and rear. Someone in Sweden is a very lucky person to be getting this girl. What is her registered name?

  • What a lovely girl!

  • "Kayla" is Khani's Midnight Star
Sire is Khani's Causing A ComMOtion
Dam is Am CH Khani's Written In The Stars

Kayla is sweet and cuddly and the biggest tail-wagger there is….
I never have to worry about her bolting out of a crate becuase she falls in the back wagging her tail and putting her ears back.
    Sweet silly girl!
