Who is who and owns which dogs….

  • My name is Susan. My B is Shaye, and she is not registered, she is just a puppy who lives here for love and good care. She will never be bred or shown, just happy. Are we allowed on this list or is it just for registered dogs?

  • of course you are also allowed on this list. It is not only for registered dogs (I have my Basenji-Mix and a rescued Galgo on it as well). It is more that we can associate who is behind which nick and which dog belongs to which person…

    Regards,
    Esther

    Welcome aboard, Susan.

But your lovely puppy is also more than welcome on the Basenji pedigrees on-line website, along with a photo. Please email me Shaye's details so I can include her. The whole idea is to include pets - mine are all pets although I call them pe(s)ts - as well as puppy-mill pups and top winning champions in the database to make it as complete a history of the Breed as ever we can.

  • Who cares if registed or not we are family. We all are allowed on here.

  • Well said Sally.

Shaye'smom, my 2 are also just pets and Sally has added them to her d/b as well. It's just as much fun for us pet owners to look up their lineage as the professionals. Everyone here has always been kind and tolerant of me as a pet owner (even when I asked some VERY stupid questions).:D

I'm glad Shaye will be at Sally's site.

  • Houston

I agree, welcome to all, it is just very nice to see whom owns whom..

Shaye was born December 15, 2008. I have tried to upload a picture of her, but for some reason, the pictures I've been able to upload to this site before are not working - have they changed the size requirements???

  • Second attempt at uploading - this is a picture I cropped which was taken by someone else at the dog park - this guy takes great pictures!

  • Indeed… all are welcome... and even if your pups are not registered or not registered with AKC, any information that you have on the Sire/Dam and/or pedigree is gratefully welcome. Since many puppymillers and back yard breeders have gone on to use off registery because they didn't want to do parentage DNA testing is still useful to the database, as many times Sally can link those to the rest of the pedigree....

If you can email me privately, and send the photo to me along with Shaye's parents as well as her color, I will make sure the picture appears embedded in her pedigree.

My site addresses are in my signature block and you will find my email addresses there. I am not sure if I am allowed to include an email ad. in a post on this forum.

PS The same thing applies to anyone and everyone on this Forum - please lets get the d/b as complete as possible

  • A little off topic here, but Sally-do you want pics of B's on the pedigree site, or is that optional? I just was never sure, but I do get pics of the puppies and can request them as well as I have some of the Bluestones dogs. Including some of the deceased as well.

  • do you want pics of B's on the pedigree site, or is that optional?

Of course it's optional, no-one is obliged to send pictures but I LOVE getting photos of Basenjis for inclusion in the database and I don't mind if they are show-posed, coursing, flat-out after a hare or a cuddly fire-side darling. It all adds to the interest. And if you have photos (if anyone has photos) of long- (or recently) gone Basenjis - YES PLEASE.

Attach them as .jpg to an email sent to any of my addresses and if you possibly can, lower case, normal spacing, no titles. i.e.

    the name of the dog.jpg

cos then I can embed then easily and don't have to rename the photos. (My eyes for amll print are not as good as they once were).

  • Off topic, but Sally you are such a saint for keeping this database!! =)

  • Off topic again, but its given me such pleasure to see Benjis pic and pedegree on the database.

  • It occurs to me that we ought to be keeping this thread SOLELY for introductions. It'd be great if it could be 'weeded' of anything BUT intros and then made as a permanent first-choice thread on the front page (where the forums and threads are listed).

If all new-comers were encouraged to add an 'I'm ME !' we could welcome them elsewhere.

I'll start a new thread soliciting database data and photos when I can draw breath !

Eldorado does litter box train and they were always very successful at it when I visited..I know they line the outside of the box with newspaper too..so I would make sure to do that also so she's as familiar with the process as she can be. I would suggest if you can't get her to start using it for pooping soon to just get her a coat and start outside. The longer she goes without pooping where you want her to the harder it'll be when you need to change it. Bad habits develop fast. I wish I started Oakley outside right away versus litter training. He always would pee in it but he wouldn't poop in it. He got very used to pooping next to the box on the kitchen floor and to this day prefers going on hard surfaces. I know it's hard to imagine potty training outside in this weather but you might be better off in the long run. I'm not against the litter box, I also have an eldorado pup; I just know the entire process would've been easier and more beneficial to is both if I braved the weather and did it in the first plAce

@MacPack: Dusty is darling1 How great that you ignored the trainer and figured out your little guy. They can be so smart that they "fake it" in many ways, making it hard to realize they are deaf, or don't see well. Kudos to you for being such a great mom! Thank you, I think he's a doll myself but I'm partial. You know with him not being able to hear he is very visual and he will watch TV with me. I find that so interesting. He likes animated movies like the ones from Pixar, I can not watch any program with dogs, cats, horses, cows, bears or basically any animal because he starts barking like he is going to be attacked at any given moment. But if we are outside, and we see dogs or other animals he doesn't do anything. Maybe he is just protecting his turf when he's inside. When I tell people that he is deaf, they always say 'oh poor thing' and I always tell them that he doesn't know anything different so he's fine. If he had been able to hear and the lost his hearing that would be much harder for him. But he's really smart and picked up on my sign language very quickly, so he's happy. I'm happy too. Although when he's being a bit unruly I find myself scolding him then I laugh because he can't hear me. Then I tell him 'lucky for you that you can't hear me mister' and I laugh.

@tanza: Did she come from a breeder? Most responsible breeders will/should take back their Basenjis? This would be your first option.

They are both fixed and I have had a behaviorist in who was helpful in many ways. Willie had developed dominance aggression and deffered (I think I spelled that wrong) aggression. His aggression only seemed to surface in response to the way Rosie picked on him - it all sort of snowballed and anytime we went away and left them with someone else (in the house) something big (and bad) would happen. Willie's aggression has really decreased. He's almost his old sweet self - we feel much better about his behavior. Rosie needs some more work as far as he's concerned, but she's a sweetie with us. We'll keep trying and we haven't given up hope yet!
